LDD Round 15 (Regular Season): Top-ranked Gimnasia wins another game

LDD top team - Gimnasia CR (15-1) managed to deliver another win on Thursday. This time they beat eleventh ranked San Lorenzo (7-10) in Comodoro Rivadavia 73-63. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of San Lorenzo. Gimnasia forced 30 San Lorenzo turnovers. It was a good game for Dominican swingman Angel Reyes (201-2002) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Ramiro Stehli (190-2002) contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Guard Lucas Latorre (183-2002) answered with 18 points and 6 rebounds for San Lorenzo. Gimnasia CR have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 15-1 record. San Lorenzo at the other side dropped to the twelfth position with ten games lost. Gimnasia are looking forward to face Penarol (#15) in Mar del Plata in the next round which should be an easy win for them. San Lorenzo will have a break next round.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Ferro (11-6) and Platense (7-9), which took place in Florida. 4th placed Ferro lost to twelfth ranked Platense in a road game 56-61. It was a great evening for Santino Mazzucchelli who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds. Mariano Goicoechea helped adding 15 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was center Augusto Roveres (207-2003) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Platense moved-up to eleventh place. Ferro at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Another upset was a game between Obera (10-5) and Union (6-8), which took place in Obera. Higher ranked Obera lost at home to fifteenth ranked Union 61-72 on Sunday. It was an exceptional evening for Yeferson Guerra who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds. Maximiliano Acevedo came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for Obera in the defeat. Union moved-up to thirteenth place. Defending champion Obera keeps the fifth position with five games lost. They share it with Riachuelo. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 15: Zarate was smashed by Comunicaciones on the road 95-66. Regatas won against Olimpico on its own court 77-59. Bottom-ranked San Martin was outscored by Boca Jrs. in Buenos Aires 81-58. La Union managed to beat Union at home 84-79. Bottom-ranked San Martin was defeated by Obras on the opponent's court 89-71.



Comunicaciones - Zarate 95-66

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked Comunicaciones (10-6) crushed 18th ranked Zarate (3-9) in Mercedes 95-66 on Thursday. It was an exceptional evening for Mateo Rearte (-2006) who led the winners and scored 33 points (!!!). Point guard Agustin Passone (180-2003) accounted for 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Four Comunicaciones players scored in double figures. Guard Sahir Abdala (185-2005) came up with 19 points and 6 rebounds and forward Juan Ibarra (197-2004) added 14 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Zarate in the defeat. Comunicaciones moved-up to seventh place. Zarate lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the eighteenth position with nine games lost. Comunicaciones will meet at home league's second-placed Boca Jrs. in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Zarate will play against Penarol (#15) and hope to secure a win.

It was an exceptional evening for Viktor Bender who led the winners and scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. Maximiliano Bottaro accounted for 8 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Regatas' coach Diego Checenelli used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Point guard Cesar Martinez (182-2007) came up with 15 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and Carlos Hurtado added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Olimpico in the defeat. Boca Jrs. dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to San Martin's 30. They outrebounded San Martin 45-24 including a 36-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for forward Tiziano Prome (201-2005) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds. Matias Stachiotti (-2005) accounted for 11 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side.
