Argentinian LDD round 16 best performance: Edgar Merchant (by Hoops Agents)

Power forward Edgar Merchant (200-PF-2002) had an amazing evening in the last round for Zarate Basket Independiente, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 16.
The 21-year old player was the main contributor (28 points, eight rebounds and three assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Penarol (#15, 5-9) 93-88. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. Zarate maintains the 18th position in Argentinian LDD. Zarate is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 4-9 record. In the team's last game Merchant had a remarkable 81.8% from 2-point range. He turned to be Zarate's top player in his first season with the team. Edgar Merchant averages this season 17.4ppg and 7.2rpg.

The second best player in last round's games was young Nicolas Chiaraviglio (199-F-2004) of Penarol Mar del Plata. Chiaraviglio had a very good evening with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Bad luck as Penarol lost that game 88-93 to the lower-ranked Zarate (#18, 4-9). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Penarol keeps 15th position. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 5-9 record. Chiaraviglio is well-known at Penarol and is a proven leader in his second season with the team. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 22.7ppg (#1). He also registered 6.6 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was guard Juan Peral (179-PG-2005) of Regatas Corrientes (#16). Peral scored 22 points. Despite Peral's great performance the Regatas lost 70-82 to the higher-ranked Independ.O. (#2, 12-5). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Regatas not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 10 games, recording just five victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Peral could try to bring Regatas' a little bit higher in the standings. Peral has a very solid season. In 14 games in Argentina he scored 11.3ppg.
