Power forward Juan Cruz Oberto (200-F/C-1997) put on an amazing game in the last round for top-ranked Atenas Cordoba, receiving a Hoops Agents La Liga Argentina Player of the Week award for round 37. The 26-year old player was the main contributor (19 points, seven rebounds and two assists) to his team's victory, helping them to outclass Montmartre (#8, 10-11) with 32-point margin 101-69. It allowed Atenas to consolidate first place in the Argentinian La Liga Argentina. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Atenas has a very solid 16-5 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. It was one of impressive evenings for Oberto as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Juan Cruz Oberto averages this season 10.8ppg and 7.1rpg.
The second best player in last round's games was young Joaquin Lallana (217-C-1996) of Barrio Parque de Cordoba. Lallana had a very good evening with a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Of course he led Barrio Parque to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Independiente (#11, 9-13) 95-71. Barrio Parque's 7th position in Conferencia Norte has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But a 12-11 record is not bad and everything may still change. Lallana is one of the most experienced players at Barrio Parque and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.
Third on the list of top players last round was American center Dishon Lowery (200-C-1998) of Club Atletico Pilar (#7). Lowery scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds (!!!). Despite Lowery's great performance the Pilar lost 75-79 to slightly higher-ranked Provincial (#6, 14-12). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Pilar needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams in the Conferencia Sur. Their record is 13 victories and 13 lost games. Lowery has a great season in Argentina. After 26 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 10.4rpg (2nd best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Nicolas Franco (204-C-1999) of Montmartre - 22 points and 8 rebounds 5. Tomas Luduena (178-PG-1996) of Rivadavia - 28 points 6. Maximiliano Martin (190-G/F-1990) of Villa S.Martin - 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists
