LDD Round 31 (Regular Season): Boca Jrs. defeat Ferro in the closest game of the week

The most exciting game of round 31 in the LDD took place in Buenos Aires. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 6th ranked Ferro (17-11) to third ranked Boca Jrs (20-7) 66-64 on Tuesday evening. Boca Jrs. forced 22 Ferro turnovers. It was a great evening for Nicolas Stenta (200-2004) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Federico Contrera (-2006) helped adding 11 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. At the losing side center Augusto Roveres (207-2003) responded with 24 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Boca Jrs have a solid series of four victories in a row. Boca Jrs. maintains third place with 20-7 record having just two points less than leader Gimnasia. Ferro lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. Boca Jrs. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ferro will play at home against Comunicaciones (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Comodoro Rivadavia. First ranked host Gimnasia CR (23-3) defeated their biggest opponent Instituto (21-6) 86-68. It was an exceptional evening for guard Ramiro Stehli (190-2002) who led the winners and scored 21 points and 8 rebounds. Marcos Chacon accounted for 14 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Kadir Pomare came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds for Instituto in the defeat. Gimnasia CR have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 23-3 record. Instituto at the other side keeps the second position with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Ninth-ranked Comunicaciones (15-10) gave a tough game to fourth ranked Obras (19-7) in Buenos Aires on Monday. Obras managed to secure only three-point victory 78-75. However their fans expected much easier game. Juan Respaud fired 31 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Obras' coach Javier Ielmini used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Marcos Panozzo produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds for lost side. Obras have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 19-7 record. Loser Comunicaciones dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. Obras will meet at home Independ.O. (#5) in the next round. Comunicaciones will play against Ferro in Buenos Aires and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 31: Instituto won against San Lorenzo on the opponent's court 80-67. Independ.O. outscored Olimpico in a home game 105-73. La Union managed to beat San Martin on the road 77-70. Obera was crushed by Quimsa on its own court 67-88. Comunicaciones beat San Lorenzo in Mercedes 69-54.



San Lorenzo - Instituto 67-80

Very expected game in Almagra where 14th ranked San Lorenzo (10-17) was defeated by second ranked Instituto (21-6) 80-67 on Monday. Kadir Pomare fired 17 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Jeronimo Guerrero (191-2005) chipped in 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Instituto players scored in double figures. Valentino Nesci produced 19 points and 8 rebounds and Eduardo Santamaria added 20 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Instituto maintains second place with 21-6 record having just one point less than leader Gimnasia. Loser San Lorenzo keeps the fourteenth position with 17 games lost. They share it with Regatas. Instituto will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. San Lorenzo will play against Platense (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Very predictable result in Olivia where fifth ranked Independ.O. (18-9) smashed bottom-ranked Olimpico (3-24) 105-73 on Monday. Independ.O. dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Olimpico's 34. Independ.O. forced 29 Olimpico turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Olimpico's players. Point guard Jorge Garcia (180) fired 25 points and 6 steals for the winners. Dominican Angel Puello chipped in 19 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Independ.O.'s coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Enzo Facelli (-2003) produced 29 points and 6 rebounds and guard Ignacio Gonzalez (187-2003) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Independ.O. maintains fifth place with 18-9 record. Olimpico lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the bottom. Independ.O. will meet higher ranked Obras (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Olimpico will play against Union (#9) in Santa Fe and hope to secure a win.

Not a big story in a game in Corrientes where 19th ranked San Martin (4-23) was defeated by sixteenth ranked La Union (9-17) 77-70 on Monday. Franco Gimenez fired 27 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals for the winners. Lisandro Bernabei (-2005) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds. Geronimo Ramallo produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds and center Lorenzo Benay (203-2004) added 28 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) respectively for lost side. Despite that victory La Union went down to seventeenth position due to points difference. San Martin lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the nineteenth place with 23 games lost. La Union will meet higher ranked Regatas (#14) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. San Martin will play against Argentino (#13) and hope to secure a win.

Five Quimsa players scored in double figures. Power forward Kelvin Ramirez (204-2002) produced 14 points and 7 rebounds and forward Alejo Azpilicueta (201-2002) added 15 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Obera's coach Lucas Gornatti gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the third consecutive win for Quimsa. They maintain eleventh place with 12-12 record. Obera lost their third game in a row. Defending champion dropped to the tenth position with 14 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
