Penarol Mar del Plata (La Liga) added experienced 37-year-old American forward Diamon Simpson (204cm-104kg-1987, college: SMC) to their roster for the new 2024-25 season. He joins fellow USA player Al Thornton on the team. Simpson is making a comeback to Mar del Plata, having played there before. He was the top rebounder at Barcelona in the Ecuadorian Liga Basquet Pro. Last season, he played for Penarol Mar del Plata in the Argentinian La Liga, averaging 9.8ppg, 9.2rpg, 1.3apg, and 1.4bpg in 30 games.
Simpson has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
He is a very experienced player. Simpson's career has taken him to four different continents, where he played in eleven different countries. He has played professionally in Australia, Israel, Mexico, Philippines, Russia, Spain, Turkey, Venezuela, Czech Republic, Argentina, and The Basketball Tournament. Simpson has experienced life as a pro basketball player in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and North America.
Among many awards, his team was the regular season runner-up in the Mexican LNBP in 2022. Simpson was voted to the Latinbasket.com Argentinian La Liga All-Imports Team back in 2021. It's very possible he may end his playing career at Penarol.
He graduated from Saint Mary's College of California in 2009 and it'll be his 16th (!!!) season as a pro player.
