La Liga Round 1 (Regular Season): Atenas lose to Boca

The Regular Season in La Liga just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Atenas in Cordoba on Monday night. Hosts were defeated by Boca 81-69. Boca outrebounded Atenas 37-22 including 26 on the defensive glass. American forward Alphonso Anderson (198-1997, college: Pacific) stepped up and scored 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and the former international point guard Jose Vildoza (191-1996, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 15 points. At the losing side power forward Juan Cruz Oberto (200-1997) responded with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Boca is looking forward to face Union in Santa Fe in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Atenas will have a break next round.
Important game to mention about took place in Comodoro Rivadavia. Obras saved a 2-point victory on the road edging Gimnasia 91-89 on Friday evening. American forward Chris Clarke (196-1996, college: Texas Tech, agency: Interperformances) nailed 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and Juan Venegas accounted for 18 points (made all of his eight free throws). Obras' coach Diego Vadell allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American Jalen Jenkins (201-1994, college: GMU, agency: Players Group) came up with 19 points and 7 rebounds for Gimnasia in the defeat. Obras will play against Penarol in Mar del Plata in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gimnasia will play at home against Independ.O. to get more than just one victory in their record.
A very close game took place in Buenos Aires between Ferro and Penarol. Ferro got a very close home victory over Penarol. Ferro managed to escape with a 2-point win 84-82 on Wednesday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Rodrigo Gallegos fired 19 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Ferro's coach Federico Fernandez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Al Thornton produced a double-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks for lost side. Ferro's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Buenos Aires to the arena .

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 1: Olimpico was destroyed by Instituto on the opponent's court 99-73. Obras managed to outperform Platense in a home game 94-90. San Lorenzo lost to undefeated Union on the road 63-68. Independ.O. crushed Olimpico on its own court 104-72. Instituto lost to Regatas in Corrientes 77-82. Platense lost to Penarol at home 72-75.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 27 points and 5 rebounds by Marcus Thomas of Penarol.
