Al Thornton claims Argentinian La Liga weekly honour

Experienced American Al Thornton (203-F-1983, agency: BIG) put on an amazing game in the last round for Penarol Mar del Plata and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 32.
The 41-year old forward had the game-high 33 points adding seven rebounds for Penarol in his team's victory, helping them to beat Obras (#4, 18-12) 93-85. Penarol maintains the 13th position in Argentinian La Liga. Penarol is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 14-16 record. It's Thornton's second year at Penarol and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Florida State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Thornton is league's best scorer averaging so far 18.8ppg. Thornton is in league's top in and averages solid 52.6% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American forward Chris Clarke (196-F-1996, agency: Interperformances) of Obras Basket Buenos Aires. Clarke impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Obras lost that game 85-93 to the lower-ranked Penarol (#13, 14-16). Obras managed to keep the same 4th spot in the standings. His team's 18-12 record is not bad at all. Clarke is a newcomer at Obras and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 17.0ppg (#3). His other stats are also decent: 10.0rpg and 3.3apg.

The third best performed player last round was Edgar Merchant (200-PF-2002) of Zarate Basket Independiente (#19). Merchant scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds (!!!). Despite Merchant's great performance the Zarate lost 72-84 to the higher-ranked San Martin (#10, 16-15). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Zarate can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 7-20 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Merchant has individually a great season in Argentina. After 27 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.0rpg (4th best).
