Matias Pikaluk claims Argentinian LDD weekly honour

Matias Pikaluk

Talented Matias Pikaluk (188-G-2006) put on an amazing game in the last round for Quimsa Santiago del Estero and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 42.
The 18-year old guard had a double-double of 38 points and 13 rebounds, while his team was edged out by Zarate (#17, 8-25) 81-80. The game was not the highest importance and did not have significant influence on top of the standings. Quimsa moved-up to the 19th position in Argentinian LDD. The season is in a full swing, so it's only a dream for the team to make it into top half of the standings. For contrary they may face relegation if the situation turns from bad to worse. Quimsa have already lost 29 games and recorded just six victories. In the team's last game Pikaluk had a remarkable 55.6% from 2-point range. It's his second year at Quimsa and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Matias Pikaluk averages this season 17.0ppg and 6.9rpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was Fidel Cifuentes of Boca Juniors Buenos Aires. Cifuentes impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds. Of course he led Boca to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Olimpico (#16, 9-25) 98-66. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. But Boca managed to improve slightly their position in standings taking 10th place. His team lost some distance to top teams. But a 15-14 record is not bad and everything may still change. Cifuentes is a newcomer at Boca and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was Argentinian Tomas Delia) of Zarate Basket Independiente (#17). Delia showcased his all-around game by recording 26 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in the last round. Despite Delia's great performance the Zarate lost 80-83 to the higher-ranked San Lorenzo (#13, 14-18). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Zarate can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 8-25 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Delia has individually a great season in Argentina. After 19 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 20.4ppg (2nd best) and rebounds with 8.3rpg (7th best).
