Raynere Thornton claims Argentinian La Liga Hoops Agents weekly honour

American Raynere Thornton (201-F-1997, agency: 011 Sports) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Argentino Junin and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 38.
The 27-year old forward had a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds, while his team crushed San Martin (#10, 18-19) with 16-point margin 82-66. The game was not the highest importance and did not have significant influence on top of the standings. Argentino maintains the 20th position in Argentinian La Liga. The season is in a full swing, so it's only a dream for the team to make it into top half of the standings. For contrary they may face relegation if the situation turns from bad to worse. Argentino have already lost 28 games and recorded just six victories. In the team's last game Thornton had a remarkable 75.0% from 2-point range. He turned to be Argentino's top player in his first season with the team. University of Memphis graduate has very impressive stats this year. Thornton is league's best scorer averaging so far 20.7ppg. Thornton is in league's top in and averages solid 57.1% FGP and 50.0% from behind 3-point line.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young point guard Facundo Vazquez (185-PG-1998) of Club Atletico Platense Florida. Vazquez impressed basketball fans with 27 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists. Of course he led Platense to another comfortable win outscoring the higher-ranked Olimpico (#14, 15-19) 97-66. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Platense keeps 17th position. Vazquez is a newcomer at Platense and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was Edgar Merchant (200-PF-2002) of Zarate Basket Independiente (#19). Merchant scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds (!!!). Despite Merchant's great performance the Zarate lost 75-85 to the higher-ranked San Lorenzo (#15, 15-19). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Zarate not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 23 games, recording just ten victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Merchant could try to bring Zarate's a little bit higher in the standings. Merchant has individually a great season in Argentina. After 33 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.4rpg (4th best).
