The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Racing Ch. in Buenos Aires on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by Boca Juniors 82-67. Boca Juniors made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game, while Racing Ch. only scored three points from the stripe. They outrebounded Racing Ch. 41-28 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Racing Ch. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Francisco Caffaro (216-2000, college: Santa Clara) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. The former international forward Franco Giorgetti (203-1992) contributed with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Norberto Stucky answered with 18 points and 5 rebounds for Racing Ch.Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Another exciting game for Instituto which played in Santiado del Estero against Quimsa. Instituto upset home team edging them after exciting game by one point 73-72. Naturalized Italian Vicente Garello (203-1997, agency: BIG) stepped up and scored 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and Tomas Monacchi chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). At the losing side American Brandon Robinson (196-1989, college: Clayton St.) responded with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Quimsa's coach Leandro Ramella rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Instituto will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Quimsa will play at home against Argentino to get more than just one victory in their record.
The game in Formosa was also quite interesting. Regatas played at the court of La Union. Regatas managed to secure a 6-point victory 91-85 on Thursday. Claudio Ramirez nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Tomas Nuno came up with 14 points and 9 rebounds for La Union in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Regatas will meet at home Atenas in the next round which should be an easy win for them. La Union will have a break next round.
Other games in round 1 were not that significant. Penarol was beaten by San Lorenzo on the road 82-74. San Martin destroyed Atenas on its own court 76-49. Instituto managed to outperform Olimpico in Cordoba 73-71.
The most impressive performance of 1st round was 19 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists by Gaston Whelan of Instituto.
