La Liga Round 1 (Regular Season): Boca Juniors defeat Racing Ch.

The Regular Season in La Liga just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Racing Ch. in Buenos Aires on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by Boca Juniors 82-67. Boca Juniors made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game, while Racing Ch. only scored three points from the stripe. They outrebounded Racing Ch. 41-28 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Racing Ch. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Francisco Caffaro (216-2000, college: Santa Clara) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. The former international forward Franco Giorgetti (203-1992) contributed with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Norberto Stucky answered with 18 points and 5 rebounds for Racing Ch.Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Boca Juniors is looking forward to face San Martin in Corrientes in the next round. Racing Ch. will have a break next round.
Another exciting game for Instituto which played in Santiado del Estero against Quimsa. Instituto upset home team edging them after exciting game by one point 73-72. Naturalized Italian Vicente Garello (203-1997, agency: BIG) stepped up and scored 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and Tomas Monacchi chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). At the losing side American Brandon Robinson (196-1989, college: Clayton St.) responded with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Quimsa's coach Leandro Ramella rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Instituto will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Quimsa will play at home against Argentino to get more than just one victory in their record.
The game in Formosa was also quite interesting. Regatas played at the court of La Union. Regatas managed to secure a 6-point victory 91-85 on Thursday. Claudio Ramirez nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Tomas Nuno came up with 14 points and 9 rebounds for La Union in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Regatas will meet at home Atenas in the next round which should be an easy win for them. La Union will have a break next round.

Other games in round 1 were not that significant. Penarol was beaten by San Lorenzo on the road 82-74. San Martin destroyed Atenas on its own court 76-49. Instituto managed to outperform Olimpico in Cordoba 73-71.
The most impressive performance of 1st round was 19 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists by Gaston Whelan of Instituto.

San Lorenzo used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Mar del Plata 82-74 on Friday night. Ignacio Bednarek (206-2001) nailed 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and point guard Lucas Perez (184-1987) accounted for 14 points. Four San Lorenzo players scored in double figures. San Lorenzo's coach Sebastian Burtin used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. Rather expected game when Atenas was smashed by San Martin in Corrientes 76-49 on Friday. San Martin had a 35-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. Point guard Victor Fernandez (180-1999) nailed 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side and Franco Mendez (188-2002) accounted for 9 points and 7 rebounds. San Martin's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench saving starting five for next games. American forward Marc Loving (203-1994, college: Ohio St., agency: JCK Sports Group) came up with 11 points and swingman Jose Montero (193-1995) added 7 points respectively for Atenas in the defeat. San Martin will meet Boca Juniors in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Atenas will play against Regatas in Corrientes and hope to win that game.
