La Liga Round 2 (Regular Season): Boca Juniors keep a leadership position

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in La Liga. Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Boca Juniors smashed San Martin in Buenos Aires 89-56. Boca Juniors made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Boca Juniors outrebounded San Martin 45-29 including 32 on the defensive glass. The former international swingman Martin Cuello (193-1993) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. The former international Leonel Schattmann (193-1987) responded with 16 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. San Martin will play next round against Gimnasia trying to get back on the winning streak. Boca Juniors will try to continue on its current victory against Platense in Florida.
San Lorenzo recorded a loss on the court of Obera. Visitors were defeated by Obera 85-76. American forward Will Vorhees (203-1995, college: NDC) notched 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and Bruno Sansimoni supported him with 18 points and 5 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Even 19 points and 8 rebounds by forward Facundo Rutenberg (195-2001) did not help to save the game for San Lorenzo. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Obera will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. San Lorenzo will play on the road against La Union in Formosa to get more than just one victory in their record.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 2: Penarol lost to Ferro on the opponent's court 84-97. Regatas managed to outperform Atenas in a home game 85-69. Argentino was rolled over Quimsa on the road 99-71. Olimpico crushed Argentino on its own court 96-76.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 12 points and 11 rebounds by Francisco Caffaro of Boca Juniors.




Ferro - Penarol 97-84

Very expected game in Buenos Aires where Penarol was defeated by Ferro 97-84. Ferro made 20-of-25 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Penarol was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. notched 16 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and point guard Jano Martinez (180-2003) supported him with 14 points and 4 assists. Even 25 points by point guard Luciano Guerra (184-1997) did not help to save the game for Penarol. added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the guests. Four Penarol players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ferro will play against Racing Ch. in Chivilcoy in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Penarol will play at home against Regatas to get more than just one victory in their record.

Very predictable result in Corrientes where Regatas defeated Atenas 85-69. Regatas made 18-of-21 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The former international Pablo Gramajo (193-1996) notched 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and Sebastian Lugo (195-1998) supported him with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Regatas' coach Juan Manuel Varas allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 11 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists by did not help to save the game for Atenas. point guard Jano Martinez (180-2003) added 15 points for the guests. Regatas will play against Penarol in Mar del Plata in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Atenas will have a break next round.

American Brandon Robinson (196-1989, college: Clayton St.) notched 20 points (was perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line !!!) to lead the effort and the other American import center Jerome Meyinsse (208-1988, college: Virginia) supported him with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Even 14 points and 7 rebounds by the former international Pablo Gramajo (193-1996) did not help to save the game for Argentino. point guard Jeremias Sandrini (185-1993) added 9 points and 7 assists for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
