The most exciting game of round 14 in the La Liga took place in Cordoba. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 14th ranked Atenas (4-8) to second ranked Ferro (7-1) 78-76 on Monday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Ferro forced 20 Atenas turnovers. Strangely Atenas outrebounded Ferro 39-24 including a 27-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Point guard Emiliano Lezcano (187-2001) scored 22 points and 5 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the former international forward Facundo Pinero (202-1988) chipped in 16 points during the contest. Ferro's coach Federico Fernandez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. point guard Santiago Ferreyra (188-1997) responded with 19 points and 4 assists. Ferro have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 7-1 record behind leader La Union. Atenas lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth place with eight games lost. Ferro will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Atenas will play at home against Obras (#9) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Instituto (7-5) against seventh ranked San Martin (6-5) on Tuesday night. Visiting Instituto was defeated by San Martin in Corrientes 75-63. The former international Leonel Schattmann (193-1987) notched 17 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) to lead the effort and Franco Mendez supported him with 13 points. San Martin's coach Gabriel Revidatti allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists by naturalized Italian point guard Gaston Whelan (187-1994) did not help to save the game for Instituto. San Martin moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Boca Juniors. Instituto lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with five games lost. San Martin will again play against higher ranked Instituto (#3) in Cordoba in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Instituto will have a break next round.

La Union will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Olimpico will play against Boca Juniors (#6) and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 14 Penarol won against Platense on the opponent's court 89-88. Racing Ch. was outscored by Gimnasia in a home game 70-93.
