La Liga Argentina Round 25 (Regular Season): Ciclista edges Quilmes by one point

The most exciting game of round 25 in the La Liga Argentina took place in Junin. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of much higher ranked Quilmes (11-4) to fifteenth ranked Ciclista (5-10) 64-63 on Wednesday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Quilmes. Strangely Quilmes outrebounded Ciclista 41-28 including 27 on the defensive glass. Naturalized Italian center Damian Tintorelli (205-1981) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Valentin Costa (182-1999, agency: BIG) chipped in 21 points. Joaquin Rios (193-1995) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Ciclista moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with U.Mar del Plata. Quilmes at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. Ciclista will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Quilmes will play on the road against Pico FC in General Pico and is hoping to win this game.
Leader Santa Paula delivered the tenth victory. This time they crushed 17th ranked Colon (2-10) 104-85 in Galvez. Worth to mention a great performance of who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 6 rebounds. Joseph Caicedo contributed with 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized Italian center Damian Tintorelli (205-1981) answered with 32 points for Colon. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Santa Paula maintains first place with 10-4 record. Colon lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventeenth position with ten games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
A very close game took place in Rocamora between Pergamino and Rocamora. Fifteenth ranked Pergamino (5-9) got a very close victory on the road over 16th ranked Rocamora (3-10). Pergamino managed to escape with a 2-point win 84-82 on Thursday evening. Emanual Shepherd stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 18 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Pergamino's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Juan Fernandez responded with 26 points and 5 rebounds. Pergamino moved-up to eleventh place. Loser Rocamora keeps the sixteenth position with ten games lost. Pergamino will meet higher ranked La Union (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rocamora will have a break next round.

Other games of round 25 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Comunicaciones defeated Caroya in Mercedes 86-83. Riojana beat Las Heras at home 88-79. Estudiantes T. lost to Independiente on the opponent's court 84-93. Suardi managed to outperform Jujuy in a home game 86-80.
The best stats of 25th round was 20 points by Nahuel Fino of Suardi.

Santa Paula players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Augusto Barbieri who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 6 rebounds. Point guard Lucas Machuca (185-1992) stepped up and scored 25 points for the winners and Spanish-Venezuelan swingman Franger Pirela (187-2002) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side point guard Juan Frontera (178-2002) responded with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Ecuadorian forward Joseph Caicedo (196-2004) scored 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Comunicaciones moved-up to twelfth place. Loser Caroya dropped to the thirteenth position with seven games lost. They share it with Riojana. Independiente have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place. Loser Estudiantes T. dropped to the tenth position with seven games lost.
