Jose Montero Signs To Ciclista Olimpico- January 12, 2026
The world of Argentine basketball has been rocked by the news of a massive transfer. Ciclista Olimpico has confirmed that it has purchased the highly-rated shooting guardJose Montero from Atenas de Cordoba in an attempt to boost La Banda's side's chances in this season's edition of the Liga Nacional de Basquet (LNB). The news has become the talk of basketball fans in Argentina, and has also led some to change their betting strategies ahead of the coming games. With eSports World Cup excitement building recently, many are looking for new and innovative ways to wager, and are finding sites that offer big bonuses and plenty of game selection - including upcoming Ciclista Olimpico matches. The Dominican's arrival in Santiago de Estero came halfway through his third season at Atenas de Cordoba, where he averaged 12.8 points and 5 rebounds per game as his side won promotion from the La Liga Argentina de Basquet to the LNB in the 2023/24 season. Although his statistical game has dropped somewhat since then, he managed 10.8 points and 3.7 rebounds in 38 games for the side from Cordoba in 2024/25, and, before he arrived at the Vincente Rosales arena, he managed to get 9.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 18 games played in his final, curtailed season at the Polideportivo Municipal Carlos Cerutti. And it won't be long until the star will be making an appearance to see the fans who once cheered him on again. Ciclista Olimpico, also known as Olimpico La Banda, will be facing off against Independiente de Oliva on January 8, before heading off to play an away fixture with Atenas de Cordoba on January 10. After Montero makes his return to the Polideportivo Municipal Carlos Cerutti, he and his new teammates will be staying in Cordoba to go to the Instituto Atletico Central Cordoba (IACC)'s home at the Angel Sandrin arena for a match on January 12. The match with IACC could be a crucial one for both sides, with the Cordoban team aiming to qualify for next year's Basketball Champions League Americas (BCLA). Currently, the side are top of the continental competition's Group D, ahead of Brazilian team Sesi Franca and Chile's Universidad de Concepcion (UDC). IACC will be returning to BCLA action on January 15 when they will be heading to Franca to take on UDC. The Cordoban team qualified for the event after finishing second in the Argentine league last year, three points behind champions Boca Juniors. Montero, 31, has had quite the career, playing for top teams around the world. Starting his career at fellow Santiago del Estero side Quimsa, he has also represented Obras Sanitarias and Comunicaciones Mercedes, and even spent a season in Spain, playing for Real Betis Baloncesto in the Liga ACB, where he scored an average of 17.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in 16 matches. While his former club is currently second from bottom in the LNB, Montero's new side is in 15th place out of 20 teams and will be hoping to turn their fortunes around, with their upcoming tour of Cordoba set to feature some crucial matches. The La Banda faithful will be hoping that Montero's arrival will shore up the side's chances of making the play-offs and staving off relegation. Reports suggest that Montero, who was one of Atenas de Cordoba's better players this term, was no longer a part of coach Jose Luis Pisani's plans going forward, with the Greens deciding not to renew his contract. |
