La Liga Argentina Round 33 (Regular Season): Top-ranked Provincial wins another game

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in La Liga Argentina. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

La Liga Argentina top team - Provincial (14-4) managed to deliver another win on Sunday. This time they beat sixth ranked Pico FC (10-6) in Rosario 98-87. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Pico FC. Provincial shot the lights out from three sinking 18 long-distance shots on high 56.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. It was a good game for Santiago Lopez Hoyo who led his team to a victory with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Uruguayan center Matias Acosta (200-1999) contributed with 20 points for the winners. American guard Latraius Mosley (198-1990, college: Life) answered with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for Pico FC. Pico FC's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Provincial maintains first place with 14-4 record. Pico FC at the other side dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. They share it with Barrio Parque and Salta Basket. Provincial are looking forward to face Centenario VT (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Pico FC will have a break next round.
Important game to mention about took place in . Twelfth ranked Rivadavia (8-9) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging higher ranked Jujuy (9-9) 73-72 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Jujuy. American-Colombian Simon Hunt-Ramirez (201-1998, college: Sonoma St.) stepped up and scored 19 points and 7 rebounds (perfect behind the arc making all six shots !!!) for the winners and Mateo Perez chipped in 15 points and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was Ukrainian Andriy Grytsak (201-2000) with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Rivadavia moved-up to eleventh place. Jujuy at the other side keeps the eighth position with nine games lost. They share it with Independiente and Racing A.. Rivadavia will play against higher ranked Estudiantes T. (#6) in San Miguel de Tucuman in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Jujuy will have a break next round.
The game between 16th ranked Pergamino (5-14) and ninth ranked Racing A. (9-9) in Pergamino on Saturday ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Buenos Aires outscored Pergamino 76-54. Rafael Rosende nailed 24 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Racing A.'s coach Juan Boadaz felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Martin Gandoy came up with 14 points and 6 rebounds for Pergamino in the defeat. Racing A. moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Independiente and Jujuy. Pergamino lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixteenth position with 14 games lost. Racing A. will meet at home higher ranked La Union (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pergamino will play against Villa Mitre (#13) and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 33: Villa Mitre was beaten by Centenario VT on the road 92-84. GELP won against U.Mar del Plata on its own court 76-72. Suardi was outscored by Caroya in Colonia Caroya 88-69.



Centenario VT - Villa Mitre 92-84

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked Centenario VT (9-4) beat at home 12th ranked Villa Mitre (5-9) 92-84 on Saturday. Centenario VT looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American Tirrell Brown (198-1993, college: OBU) nailed 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and swingman Manuel Gomez (-1996) accounted for 15 points and 7 assists. Centenario VT's coach Fernando Aguilar used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Alejo Blanco came up with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and center Julian Lorca (207-2003) added 14 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Villa Mitre in the defeat. Four Centenario VT and five Villa Mitre players scored in double figures. Centenario VT moved-up to seventh place. Loser Villa Mitre keeps the twelfth position with nine games lost. They share it with El Talar. Centenario VT will meet league's leader Provincial in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Villa Mitre will play against Ciclista (#11) in Junin and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

GELP - U.Mar del Plata 76-72

Very expected game when 15th ranked U.Mar del Plata (5-13) lost to third ranked GELP (12-3) in La Plata 72-76 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Cuban Joan Gutierrez (192-2003) nailed 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and forward Juan Boffelli (197-1998) accounted for 15 points. Four GELP players scored in double figures. Forward Matias Carneglia (200-2002) came up with 20 points and 5 rebounds and Juan Bellozas (195-1993) added 8 points and 15 rebounds respectively for U.Mar del Plata in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. GELP have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. U.Mar del Plata lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth position with 13 games lost. GELP will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. U.Mar del Plata will play against El Talar (#12) in Buenos Aires and hope to secure a win.

Rather predictable result when eleventh ranked Caroya (8-8) rolled over 13th ranked Suardi (7-10) in Colonia Caroya 88-69 on Sunday. Caroya outrebounded Suardi 42-30 including a 36-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Point guard Juan Frontera (178-2002) nailed 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and American forward Maurice Walton (206-1998, college: BENUM) accounted for 6 points and 9 rebounds. Four Caroya players scored in double figures. point guard Milton Vittar (185-1991) came up with 13 points and guard Nahuel Fino (188-2000) added 10 points respectively for Suardi in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Caroya moved-up to tenth place. Loser Suardi keeps the thirteenth position with ten games lost. They share it with Riojana. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
