Quimsa (4-1) recorded its first loss in Cordoba on Sunday night. Visitors were rolled over by sixth ranked Instituto (5-2) 69-44. Instituto outrebounded Quimsa 47-36 including 35 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was point guard Julieta Sienra (161-2003) who scored 24 points. The former international power forward Giselle Botta (180-1999) chipped in 5 points and 11 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Lorena Campos (171-1999) who recorded 11 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Instituto moved-up to fourth place. Quimsa at the other side dropped to the sixth position with one game lost. Instituto are looking forward to face Hindu (#5) in Chaco in the next round. Quimsa will play at home against Gorriones and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
The game in Florida was also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Ferro (5-1) played at the court of 5th ranked Union Florida (4-3). Ferro managed to secure a 4-point victory 64-60. It was a good game for the former international center Florencia Fernandez (189-1986) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Giuliana Baccarelli contributed with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American swingman Nija Collier (183-1999, college: Central Mo.) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 17 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for Union Florida. Ferro will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Union Florida will play at home against the league's second-placed Obras (#2) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
We should mention about the upset which took place in Chaco, where higher ranked Hindu (5-3) lost at home to eleventh ranked Quimsa (4-1) 50-56 on Monday. Worth to mention a great performance of Lucia Boggetti who helped to win the game recording 3 points and 15 rebounds. Quimsa's coach Matias Bejarano used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Melina Niz with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Quimsa moved-up to sixth place. Loser Hindu dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Quimsa will meet at home Gorriones (#9) in the next round.
