La Liga Round 46 (Regular Season): Regatas defeat Obras in the closest game of the week

The games are now more important than at the beginning of the Regular Season. We may still expect few shocking results in upcoming 4 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 46 in the La Liga took place in Corrientes. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of higher ranked Obras (21-13) to eighth ranked Regatas (19-13) 79-77 on Sunday evening. Point guard Juan Corbalan (185-1998) scored 29 points to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Andres Jaime (184-2000) chipped in 14 points during the contest. Regatas' coach Juan Manuel Varas used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American forward Andrew Corum (201-1997, college: Virginia St.) responded with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Regatas have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Obras at the other side keeps the fourth position with 13 games lost. Regatas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Obras will play on the road against San Martin (#12) in Corrientes and is hoping to win this game.
Seventeenth-ranked Union (12-22) gave a tough game to tenth ranked Penarol (18-15) in Mar del Plata. Penarol managed to secure only two-point victory 85-83. However their fans expected much easier game. The former international guard Agustin Perez (192-1999) notched 17 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and Luciano Guerra supported him with 14 points and 6 assists. Even 35 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (made all of his thirteen free throws !!!) by the former international point guard Franco Balbi (189-1989) did not help to save the game for Union. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Despite that victory Penarol went down to eleventh position due to points difference. Union lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the seventeenth place with 22 games lost. Penarol will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Union will play on the road against the league's leader Gimnasia (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.

La Union's coach Guillermo Narvarte rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Olimpico maintains thirteenth position with 15-19 record. Loser La Union keeps the eighth place with 16 games lost. Olimpico will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. La Union will play against Quimsa (#3) having rather not much hope for a victory.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 46: Platense lost to Atenas on the opponent's court 72-77. Ferro outscored Argentino in a home game 100-74. Platense recorded a loss to Instituto on the road 83-70. San Lorenzo lost to defending champion Boca Juniors on its own court 77-83.

Penarol - Union SF 85-83

Ferro outrebounded Argentino 40-24 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ferro shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Argentino's players. Jose Defelippo (186-1997) fired 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. point guard Emiliano Lezcano (187-2001) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Five Ferro players scored in double figures. Uruguayan guard Martin Trelles (187-1996) produced 24 points (made all of his eight free throws) and Bahamas forward Lathaniel Bastian (203-1998, college: UTPB) added 16 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side.
