Here is the weekly review of the top performing Bahamas players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is former international center DeAndre Ayton (216-98, college: Arizona, currently plays in NBA). He could not help the Phoenix Suns (1-5) in their last game. Despite Ayton's very good performance the Phoenix Suns (1-5) were crushed 117-96 at home by the Memphis Grizzlies. He was the top scorer with 24 points. Ayton also added 8 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 33 minutes on the court; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his first season in pro basketball. It was Suns' fifth consecutive loss in a row. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Ayton's first year with the team. Ayton has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 17.5ppg, 10.3rpg, 3.8apg, 2FGP: 64.4%(47-73) and FT: 84.6% in six games he played so far. Ayton played for the Bahamas senior national team two years ago.

Buddy Hield

   #2. Second place goes to an international guard Buddy Hield (193-93, college: Oklahoma, currently plays in NBA). He led Sacramento Kings to a victory over the Memphis Grizzlies (3-2) 97-92 in the NBA last Wednesday. Hield was MVP of the game. He scored 23 points and grabbed 7 rebounds; not bad, considering it's only Hield's third season in pro basketball. The Sacramento Kings have 3-3 record this season. But the season just started, so everything may happen. This year Hield has very high stats. He averages: 17.2ppg, 5.0rpg, 1.8apg, 2FGP: 53.6%, 3FGP: 42.9% and FT: 77.8%. Hield is in the roster of the Bahamas senior national team.

   #3. The Bahamas player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward David Nesbitt (200-91, college: St.Thomas, FL, currently plays in Liga SudAmericana). He contributed to Flamengo's victory against the eighth-ranked Goes 93-81 in the Liga Sudamericana on Tuesday night. Nesbitt scored 9 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 23 minutes. Clube de Regatas do Flamengois placed first in group F. This year Nesbitt's overall stats are: 7.7ppg, 7.7rpg, 2FGP: 27.3% and FT: 62.5% in three games. He is also a member of the Bahamas senior national team.

   #4. An experienced power forward Christopher Turnquest (204-83, college: Miles CC, currently plays in Spain) was the main contributor in Arenys' victory against the fifth-ranked JAC Sants (4-2) 75-59 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) last Saturday. Turnquest was the best player in that game. He had a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 12 rebounds. Turnquest also added 3 assists in 31 minutes. Arenys Basquet Joventut (4-2) is placed third in Group C-B. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. It's Turnquest's first season with the team. He has very impressive stats this year: 17.8ppg, 8.8rpg and 1.2spg in five games. Turnquest used to play for the Bahamas national team back in 2006.

   #5. International guard Michael Carey Jr. (196-93, college: Wagner, currently plays in Mexico) was not able to help Huracanes (0-4) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his very good performance the seventh-placed Huracanes (0-4) was defeated 102-91 on the road by the higher-ranked Santos (#5) in the North group. Carey Jr. was the top scorer with 19 points. He also added 5 boards, passed 4 assists and added 3 steals. Carey Jr.'s total stats this season are: 10.0ppg, 3.5rpg and 2.3apg. He plays currently for the Bahamas national team.

   #6. Forward Dwight Coleby (206-94, agency: Interperformances, college: W.Kentucky, currently plays in Belgium) contributed to a Liege Basket's victory against one of league's weakest teams Basic-Fit Brussels (1-3) 92-83 in the Belgian Euromillions League in Friday night's game. Coleby was the top player that evening. He scored 23 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 33 minutes. betFIRST Liege Basket (2-3) is placed fifth in the Euromillions League. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. Coleby has very impressive stats this year: 16.8ppg and 7.0rpg in five games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Bahamas National Team roster.

   #7. International power forward Kadeem Coleby (206-89, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Japan) was not able to secure a victory for Akita Happinets (3-7) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his very good performance Akita Happinets (#4) were edged 77-74 in Tochigi by the leading Brex in the East group. Coleby was the top scorer with 23 points. He also added 9 rebounds and made 4 blocks. Coleby has relatively good stats this season: 11.0ppg, 7.8rpg and 3.3bpg. Worth to mention Coleby played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He is also Bahamas national team player.

   #8. Forward Jaraun Burrows (203-85, college: PFW, currently plays in France) was the major contributor in a Provence Basket's surprising victory against the seventh-ranked Boulazac Basket (4-3) 88-76 in the French ProA on Friday night. Burrows recorded 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 28 minutes. FOS Provence Basket (1-6) is placed second from the bottom (#17) in the ProA. It was his team's first victory after six consecutive loses. This year Burrows' total stats are: 9.7ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.1apg and 1.1spg in seven games. He plays currently for the Bahamas national team.

International forward Kentwan Smith (203-91, college: Stetson, currently plays in Denmark) helped Naestved win their game against the leader EBAA (2-0) crushing them 101-71 in the Danish BasketLigaen in Sunday night's game. Smith recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group ProA. Team FOG Naestved (5-1) is placed third. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Smith has averaged so far 8.4ppg and 5.8rpg. He is also in the roster of the Bahamas national team.

   #10. Center Shaquille Cleare (203-93, college: Texas, currently plays in Mexico) is a teammate of previously mentioned Michael Carey Jr. and both played together in the last Mexican LNBP game. Cleare couldn't help Huracanes (0-4) in their game against Santos (2-2). He scored 6 points in only 5 minutes. Huracanes (#7) lost 91-102 in San Luis Potosi to the higher-ranked (#5) Santos in the North group. Cleare has averaged so far 7.5ppg and 2.0rpg in two games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Bahamas National Team roster.

   #11. Former U17 international forward Jordan Wilson (196-96, currently plays in Canada) helped Dalhousie University win their game against the Voyageurs crushing them 82-39 in the U Sports on Saturday night. Wilson scored 9 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished 4 assists. It was his first game for Dalhousie University this season. Wilson used to play for the Bahamas U17 national team five years ago.

   #12. Former U16 international guard Shamar Burrows (190-97, currently plays in Canada) is a teammate of previously mentioned Jordan Wilson and both played together in the last U Sports game. Burrows helped Dalhousie University win their game against the Voyageurs crushing them 82-39. He scored 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 18 minutes. It was his first game for Dalhousie University this season. Burrows used to play for the Bahamas U16 national team back in 2013.

   #13. Former international center Gjio Bain (211-85, college: S.Mississippi, currently plays in Japan) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Iwate Big Bulls in their game against Gifu Swoops in the Japanese B League D4. He scored only 4 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. His team were defeated 61-50. Bain has averaged so far 9.0ppg, 8.6rpg and 1.2bpg. He used to play for the Bahamas national team seven years ago.

   #14. International forward Tavario Miller (203-94, college: Texas A&M, currently plays in Spain) helped Baskonia B win their game against the eighth-ranked Tormes 74-57 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) in Sunday night's game. Miller scored 13 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks. This season Miller has relatively solid stats: 11.3ppg, 6.8rpg and 1.5bpg. He attended previously one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball. He plays currently for the Bahamas national team.


The list of other players, who all have Bahamas passport but never been selected to any of Bahamas national teams:

   #1. Klay Thompson (201-G-90, college: Washington St., currently plays in NBA) led Golden State Warriors to a victory against the Brooklyn Nets (2-4) 120-114 in the NBA in Sunday night's game. Thompson recorded 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. The Golden State Warriors have a very solid 6-1 record this season. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Thompson is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his eighth year in Golden State Warriors' roster. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Thompson averages: 15.1ppg, 4.1rpg and 1.3apg. He has a dual citizenship: Bahamas and American.

   #2. Winslo Barry (208-F-90, college: Incarnate Word, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Igualatorio Cantabria Estela Santander in a victory against the 12th-ranked Gijon (1-4) 65-61 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) on Saturday night. Barry scored only 2 points in 7 minutes on the court. Igualatorio Cantabria Estela Santander (3-2) is placed fourth in West group. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Barry has averaged so far 1.6ppg and 1.2rpg in five games he played so far.

Munnings' double-double lands him Interperformances Player of the Week award - 3 days ago
26-year old center Livingston Munnings (C-92) had a great game in the last round for Rockets and receives a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 9. He had a double-double of 25 points and 18 rebounds, while his team beat Pirates (#7, 3-6) 100-88. Rockets maintains the 3rd position in Bahamas league. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. Rockets will need more victories to improve their 7-2 record. It's Munning...   [read more]

NPBA Round 9: Derby game ends with Rockets' defeat of Pirates - 4 days ago
Here is the last round review presented by ESL. The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Nassau: Rockets (#3) and Pirates (#6). Rockets (7-2) won against visiting Pirates (3-6) 100-88. Rockets forced 24 Pirates turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 34 personal fouls committed by Pirates helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. ZANE KNOWLES ProB newcomer Chartres Basket Masculins strengthened their roster with addition of 26-year old Bahamas international center Zane Knowles (208-116kg-92, college: Texas A&M-CC, agency: Octagon Europe). He played most recently at Etoile Charleville-Mezieres. In 27 ProB games in France he recorded 9.0ppg and 6.7rpg last season.
