Here is the weekly review of the top performing Bahamas players, who play currently abroad.


DeAndre Ayton

   #1. This week's number one is former international center DeAndre Ayton (216-98, college: Arizona, currently plays in NBA). He could not help the Phoenix Suns (4-19) in their last game. Despite Ayton's very good performance the Phoenix Suns (4-19) lost 107-118 at home to the Detroit Pistons. He had a double-double by scoring 25 points and getting 13 rebounds. Ayton also added 3 blocks in 32 minutes on the court; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his first season in pro basketball. It was Suns' fourth consecutive loss in a row. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Ayton's first year with the team. Ayton has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 16.2ppg, 10.2rpg, 2.5apg, 2FGP: 60.4%(163-270) and FT: 78.3% in 23 games he played so far. Ayton played for the Bahamas senior national team two years ago.

Buddy Hield

   #2. Second place goes to an international guard Buddy Hield (193-93, college: Oklahoma, currently plays in NBA). He was the major contributor in a 1-point Sacramento Kings' victory against the Indiana Pacers (13-10) 111-110 in the NBA on Saturday night. Hield recorded 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 34 minutes; not bad, considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. The Sacramento Kings have 11-11 record this season. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Hield has very impressive stats this year: 18.4ppg, 5.5rpg, 2.7apg, 2FGP: 51.2%, 3FGP: 41.1% and FT: 84.8% in 22 games. He is in the roster of the Bahamas senior national team.

   #3. The Bahamas player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international power forward Christopher Turnquest (204-83, college: Miles CC, currently plays in Spain). Turnquest led Arenys to a victory over the 14th-ranked Vive El Masnou (1-10) 88-79 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) in Saturday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Turnquest recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 10 rebounds. Arenys Basquet Joventut (7-4) is placed fourth in Group C-B. This season Turnquest has very high stats. He averages: 17.9ppg, 10.9rpg, 2FGP: 56.8%(71-125), 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 77.1%. Turnquest played for the Bahamas national team twelve years ago.

Oswald Parker
Oswald Parker
   #4. Guard Oswald Parker (193-97, currently plays in NCAA2) contributed to an Adelphi University's victory against the Felician University 97-91 in the NCAA2 last Sunday. He scored 26 points (!!!) and grabbed 6 rebounds in 31 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 2 ranked teams in group Southwest. The Adelphi University has 1-1 record this season. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. It's Parker's first year with the team. This season Parker's overall stats are: 10.0ppg, 4.6rpg and 2.4apg in seven games. He used to play for the Bahamas U16 national team back in 2013.

   #5. International point guard Jaron Cornish (180, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to a Stony Brook's victory against the Norfolk State University 79-73 in the NCAA on Tuesday night. Cornish recorded 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The State University of New York,Stony Brook has conference record this season. Cornish's total stats this year are: 8.9ppg, 3.3rpg and 3.9apg. He plays currently for the Bahamas national team.

   #6. Center Gjio Bain (211-85, college: S.Mississippi, currently plays in Japan) was not able to help Iwate Big Bulls (3-15) in their last game. Despite Bain's very good performance Iwate Big Bulls were crushed 81-52 on their home court in Iwate by the higher-ranked (#4) Saitama Broncos. He was the top scorer with 19 points. Bain also added 6 rebounds in 28 minutes. It was Iwate Big Bulls' ninth consecutive loss in a row. This year Bain's total stats are: 9.1ppg, 7.6rpg and 1.3bpg in 18 games. He is a former international player as he played for the Bahamas senior team seven years ago.

   #7. International forward Travis Munnings (198-94, currently studies in the States), who plays in the NCAA was not able to secure a victory for the La-Monroe in their last game on Saturday. Despite Munnings' very good performance his team was crushed 83-60 on their home court in Monroe by the The University of Mississippi. He scored 17 points. Munnings is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in La-Monroe's roster. Munnings has relatively good stats this season: 13.3ppg, 7.6rpg and 2.6apg. He is also Bahamas national team player.

Charles Bain

   #8. Forward Charles Bain (203-96, is currently at the American university), who plays in the NCAA couldn't help the Robert Morris in their last game. Despite Bain's good performance his team lost 69-82 on their home court in Pittsburgh to the Drexel University. He scored 14 points in 22 minutes. Bain has averaged so far 8.1ppg and 4.5rpg in eight games. He used to play for the Bahamas U17 national team back in 2013.

   #9. Former U17 international forward Philip McKenzie (196-98, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the Houston Baptist in their game against the The Univ.of Texas - San Antonio in the NCAA. He scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. his team was defeated 86-82 on the road by the The Univ.of Texas -. McKenzie has averaged so far 4.8ppg and 5.0rpg. He used to play for the Bahamas U17 national team three years ago.

Tavario Miller

   #10. Forward Tavario Miller (203-94, college: Texas A&M, currently plays in Spain) was the main contributor in Baskonia's victory against the fourth-ranked Cocinas.com (6-4) 80-76 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) in Saturday night's game. He was the best player in that game. Miller scored 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Grupo Eleyco Baskonia (8-2) is placed third in West group. This season Miller has relatively solid stats: 10.6ppg, 6.7rpg and 1.7spg. Worth to mention Miller played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Bahamas National Team roster.


The list of other players, who all have Bahamas passport but never been selected to any of Bahamas national teams:

   #1. Klay Thompson (201-G-90, college: Washington St., currently plays in NBA) was the major contributor in a Golden State Warriors' victory against the Orlando Magic (11-12) 116-110 in the NBA last Monday. He scored 29 points (!!!), grabbed 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks. The Golden State Warriors have a solid 15-9 record this season. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Thompson is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his eighth year in Golden State Warriors' roster. Thompson has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 22.8ppg, 4.0rpg and 1.8apg. Thompson has a dual citizenship: Bahamas and American.

   #2. Winslo Barry (208-F-90, college: Incarnate Word, currently plays in Spain) led Naron to a victory against the 11th-ranked Carbajosa (2-6) 93-83 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) in Sunday night's game. Barry recorded 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Baloncesto Naron (3-5) is placed tenth in Group A-B. It's Barry's first season with the team. This year he has relatively solid stats: 11.3ppg and 8.7rpg.

   #3. Radshad Davis (188-G, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA could not help the Texas Arlington in their last game. Despite Davis' good performance his team lost 58-72 at home to the The University of Tulsa. He recorded 10 points in 24 minutes. It's Davis' first season with the team. Davis has averaged so far 8.6ppg and 6.0rpg in seven games he played so far.

   #4. Nathan Bain (198-F, currently studies in the States) was not able to help the SF Austin (0-0) in their game against the University of San Francisco in the NCAA. Bain recorded 7 points in 25 minutes. his team was badly defeated 76-58 on their home court in Nacogdoches by the University of. Bain has been at the team for four years. He has averaged so far 7.8ppg and 4.8rpg in six games.

   #5. Aaron Levarity (198-F, currently plays in NAIA) was not able to secure a victory for the Milligan College in their last game on Saturday. Despite Levarity's very good performance his team was defeated 91-85 on the road by the Allen University. He recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 11 rebounds. This season Levarity has relatively solid stats: 13.0ppg, 7.0rpg and 1.5spg.

   #6. Dwight Wheatley (198-F-96, currently plays in NAIA) couldn't help the Florida Memorial University in their game against the Thomas University in the TSC. He scored only 4 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 9 minutes on the court. It was his first game for Florida Memorial University this season. His team lost 73-79 in the TSC.

26-year old center Livingston Munnings (C-92) had a great game in the last round for Rockets and receives a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 9. He had a double-double of 25 points and 18 rebounds, while his team beat Pirates (#7, 3-6) 100-88. Rockets maintains the 3rd position in Bahamas league. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. Rockets will need more victories to improve their 7-2 record. It's Munning...   [read more]

NPBA Round 9: Derby game ends with Rockets' defeat of Pirates - 4 days ago
Here is the last round review presented by ESL. The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Nassau: Rockets (#3) and Pirates (#6). Rockets (7-2) won against visiting Pirates (3-6) 100-88. Rockets forced 24 Pirates turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 34 personal fouls committed by Pirates helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. ZANE KNOWLES ProB newcomer Chartres Basket Masculins strengthened their roster with addition of 26-year old Bahamas international center Zane Knowles (208-116kg-92, college: Texas A&M-CC, agency: Octagon Europe). He played most recently at Etoile Charleville-Mezieres. In 27 ProB games in France he recorded 9.0ppg and 6.7rpg last season.
