We bring you last week's top performances from Bahamians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Buddy Hield

   #1. This week's number one is an international guard Buddy Hield (193-93, college: Oklahoma, currently plays in NBA). Hield led Sacramento Kings to a victory over the New York Knicks (13-54) 115-108 in the NBA last Monday. He was MVP of the game. Hield scored 28 points (!!!), had 6 rebounds and dished 7 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line); quite an impressive performance considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. The Sacramento Kings have 33-32 record this season. Hield has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 21.0ppg, 5.3rpg, 2.4apg, 2FGP: 48.9%, 3FGP: 43.8% and FT: 87.7%. Hield is currently a member of the Bahamas senior national team.

DeAndre Ayton

   #2. Second place goes to former international center DeAndre Ayton (216-98, college: Arizona, currently plays in NBA). He contributed to a Phoenix Suns' victory against the Milwaukee Bucks (50-17) 114-105 in the NBA on Monday night. Ayton had a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 12 rebounds. He also added 3 blocks in 34 minutes; not bad, considering it's only Ayton's third season in pro basketball. The Phoenix Suns have rather weak 16-52 record this season. It's Ayton's first year with the team. He has very impressive stats this year: 16.6ppg, 10.3rpg, 1.9apg, 2FGP: 59.5%(441-741) and FT: 75.7% in 61 games he played so far. Ayton played for the Bahamas national team in 2016.

   #3. The Bahamas player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international power forward Christopher Turnquest (204-83, college: Miles CC, currently plays in Spain). He helped Arenys win their game against the ninth-ranked JAC Sants (9-11) crushing them 65-36 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) in Sunday night's game. Turnquest recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 19 rebounds. Arenys Basquet Joventut (11-9) is placed fourth in Group C-B. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Turnquest has relatively good stats this season: 14.5ppg, 11.1rpg, 2FGP: 53.7%, 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 74.6%. He played for the Bahamas national team thirteen years ago.

   #4. Power forward Kadeem Coleby (206-89, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Japan) could not help Akita Happinets (14-29) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the fifth-placed Akita Happinets (14-29) lost 68-77 on the road to the lower-ranked (#6) Shiga L-Stars in the East group. Coleby had a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 11 rebounds in 22 minutes. This year Coleby has relatively solid stats: 13.0ppg, 8.8rpg, 1.3apg and 2.4bpg in 40 games. Worth to mention Coleby played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He is also Bahamas national team player.

L.J. Rose
L.J. Rose
   #5. International guard L.J. Rose (190-93, college: BYU, currently plays in Latvia) was not able to help Valga-Valka (6-18) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Rose's very good performance Valga-Valka was defeated 90-78 at home by the higher-ranked TLU/Kalev (#9). He was the second best scorer with 15 points. Rose also added 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This season Rose has very high stats. He averages: 15.3ppg, 7.8rpg, 5.3apg and 1.3spg. Rose has a dual citizenship: Bahamas and American. Despite he played previously for the USA U16 national team, Rose is currently in the Bahamas national team roster.

   #6. Forward Travis Munnings (198-94, currently plays college basketball in the States) helped La-Monroe win their game against the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (5-13) 79-62 in the NCAA in Saturday night's game. He scored 23 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 39 minutes. The University of Louisiana at Monroe has 9-9 conference record this season. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. Munnings is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in La-Monroe's roster. Munnings has reliable stats this season: 14.3ppg, 7.6rpg and 2.3apg in 30 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Bahamas National Team roster.

   #7. International forward David Nesbitt (200-91, college: St.Thomas, FL, currently plays in Brazil) managed to help Clube de Regatas do Flamengo to win against the seventh-ranked Minas (10-14) crushing them 82-60 in the Brazilian NBB last Saturday. Nesbitt scored only 3 points and had 3 steals. Clube de Regatas do Flamengo (8-2) is placed second in the NBB. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Nesbitt's overall stats this season are: 7.5ppg and 4.7rpg. He is also Bahamas national team player.

   #8. Center Gjio Bain (211-85, college: S.Mississippi, currently plays in Japan) helped Kagoshima win their game against the closely-ranked Saitama Broncos (14-20) 93-81 in the Japanese B League D3 on Saturday night. Bain had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 11 rebounds in 39 minutes. Kagoshima Rebnise (12-22) is placed eighth in the B League D3. This year Bain's overall stats are: 10.0ppg, 9.2rpg and 1.2bpg in five games. He used to play for the Bahamas national team back in 2011.

International center Shaquille Cleare (203-93, college: Texas, currently plays in Spain) was the major contributor in an Lleida Basquet's victory against the seventh-ranked CB Granada (15-10) 78-70 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) in Friday night's game. Cleare recorded 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. It was his first game for Lleida Basquet this season. His team is placed 11th in the LEB Gold. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. Cleare is also in the roster of the Bahamas national team.

   #10. Point guard Jaron Cornish (180, currently studies in the States) helped Stony Brook win their game against the University of Hartford (10-6) 68-63 in the NCAA last Tuesday. He scored 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 34 minutes. The State University of New York,Stony Brook has a solid 12-4 conference record this season. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. This year Cornish's total stats are: 9.0ppg, 4.1rpg and 3.5apg in 32 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Bahamas National Team roster.

   #11. Former U17 international forward Charles Bain (203-96, is currently at the American university) helped Robert Morris win their game against the St. Francis College (NY) 69-65 in the NCAA on Wednesday night. Bain scored 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Bain averaged so far 10.2ppg and 4.6rpg. He used to play for the Bahamas U17 national team six years ago.

   #12. International forward Kentwan Smith (203-91, college: Stetson, currently plays in Denmark) helped Naestved win their game against the fourth-ranked Svendborg crushing them 95-74 in the Danish BasketLigaen in Thursday night's game. Smith recorded 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 17 minutes. Smith has averaged so far 9.3ppg, 4.9rpg and 1.2apg in 23 games. He is also in the roster of the Bahamas national team.

   #13. Former U17 international forward Qyemah Gibson (196-97, currently plays in Canada) helped Saint Mary's University win their game against the Stingers 84-67 in the U Sports last Saturday. Gibson scored 8 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Gibson has averaged so far 5.2ppg and 2.4rpg. He used to play for the Bahamas U17 national team six years ago.

   #14. International center Zane Knowles (208-92, agency: Octagon Europe, college: Texas A&M-CC, currently plays in France) helped C'Chartres win their game against the 12th-ranked Lille Metropole 85-77 in the French ProB (second division) on Saturday night. He scored 6 points, had 8 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Knowles averaged so far 11.4ppg, 5.9rpg and 1.3bpg. He plays currently for the Bahamas national team.

   #15. International swingman J.R. Cadot (196-87, college: TCU, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Moron in their game against Fontedoso Carrefour in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division). Cadot scored 6 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 18 minutes. His team was edged 68-65. He has averaged so far 4.0ppg and 3.8rpg in six games. Cadot is also in the roster of the Bahamas national team.


The list of other players, who all have Bahamas passport but never been selected to any of Bahamas national teams:

   #1. Klay Thompson (201-G-90, college: Washington St., currently plays in NBA) led Golden State Warriors to a victory over the Denver Nuggets (43-22) 122-105 in the NBA in Friday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Thompson recorded 39 points (!!!) and added 4 passes in 35 minutes. The Golden State Warriors have a solid 45-21 record this season. It's Thompson's eighth year with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Thompson averages: 22.3ppg, 4.0rpg, 2.3apg and 1.1spg in 62 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Bahamas and American.

   #2. Shaquillo Fritz (203-F-94, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA could not help the Arkansas St. (7-11) to beat the University Louisiana at Lafayette (10-8). Fritz scored 7 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 20 minutes. The Arkansas St. was edged 90-87 on the road by the University Louisiana at. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. Fritz has averaged so far 1.7ppg and 2.5rpg in 24 games.

   #3. Nathan Bain (198-F, currently studies in the States) was not able to help the SF Austin in their game against the Abilene Christian University (13-5) in the NCAA. He scored 7 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks. The SF Austin was defeated 72-58 at home by the Christian University. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. Bain has been at the team for four years. Bain has averaged so far 5.8ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.4apg and 1.2spg.

   #4. Radshad Davis (188-G, is currently at the American university) contributed to an Texas Arlington's victory against the Texas State University at San Marcos (12-6) 81-73 in the NCAA last Saturday. He scored 7 points in 18 minutes. The University of Texas at Arlington has a solid 12-6 conference record this season. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. It's Davis' first year with the team. Davis has averaged so far 8.3ppg, 5.5rpg and 1.3apg in 31 games.

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Bahamas players, who play currently abroad. This week's number one is an international guard Buddy Hield (193-93). Giants - Bahamas Univ. 79-71 Giants overcame University of Bahamas to take the lead in the semifinal series. Giants outrebounded Mingoes 51-37 including a 40-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Gameliel Rose fired 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Bahamas Univ. - Shockers 92-82 Bahamas University topped Shockers to advance into the semifinal stage. Mingoes forced 22 Shockers turnovers. Strangely Shockers outrebounded Mingoes 50-36 including a 28-11 advantage in offensive rebounds.
