Here is the weekly review of the top performing Bahamas players, who play currently abroad.
#1. This week's number one is an international guard
Buddy Hield (193-93, college:
Oklahoma, currently plays in NBA). He led
Sacramento Kings to a victory over the San Antonio Spurs (47-34)
113-106 in the NBA in Sunday night's game.
Hield was MVP of the game. He scored 26 points (!!!), had 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 31 minutes on the court; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Hield's third season in pro basketball. The Sacramento Kings have 39-42 record this season.
His team will play only one more game in the NBA Regular Season. And that game will be critical.
Hield has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 20.8ppg, 5.1rpg, 2.5apg, 2FGP: 48.7%, 3FGP: 42.6% and FT: 88.6% in 81 games he played so far.
Hield is currently a member of the Bahamas senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to an experienced former international power forward
Christopher Turnquest (204-83, college:
Miles CC, currently plays in Spain). He could not help
Arenys (13-11) in their last game. Despite Turnquest's very good performance the fifth-placed Arenys (13-11) lost
74-82 on the road to the lower-ranked (#6) Castelldefels in the Group C-B.
He had a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 11 rebounds in 29 minutes.
There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial.
Turnquest has relatively good stats this year: 14.0ppg, 10.6rpg, 2FGP: 53.3%, 3FGP: 25.6% and FT: 73.1% in 23 games.
He played for the Bahamas national team in 2006.
#3. The Bahamas player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward
Dwight Coleby (206-94, college:
WKU, currently plays in Japan). Coleby was not able to help
Akita Happinets (15-40) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his very good performance Akita Happinets (#5) were defeated
92-84 in Tokyo by the higher-ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (#4) in the East group.
Coleby recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 10 rebounds.
This season Coleby has relatively solid stats: 14.8ppg, 10.5rpg, 1.7apg, 1.1bpg, 2FGP: 51.7% and FT: 65.0%.
He is also a member of the Bahamas senior national team.
#4. Forward
Jonathan Augustin-Fairell (201-93, agency:
Duran International, college:
Murray St., currently plays in France) contributed to a
Denain Voltaire's surprising victory against the third-ranked Entente Orleans 45 (18-7)
78-70 in the French ProB (second division) last Saturday.
Augustin-Fairell recorded 9 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks in 20 minutes.
Denain ASC Voltaire (8-17) is placed 15th in the ProB.
They ended the series of seven consecutive loses.
This year Augustin-Fairell's overall stats are: 8.3ppg and 3.0rpg in three games.
He has a dual citizenship: Bahamas and American.
Augustin-Fairell is also Bahamas national team player.
#5. International power forward
Kadeem Coleby (206-89, college:
Wichita St., currently plays in Japan) is a teammate of previously mentioned Dwight Coleby. But that was another game of his team in Japanese B League which we would like to mention.
Coleby was not able to secure a victory for
Akita Happinets (15-40) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his good performance Akita Happinets (#5) were badly defeated
79-63 in Tokyo by the higher-ranked Toyota Alvark (#3) in the East group.
Coleby was the second best scorer with 13 points. He also added 6 rebounds, 3 assists and made 2 blocks.
Coleby has reliable stats this season: 12.9ppg, 8.6rpg, 1.4apg and 2.3bpg.
Worth to mention he played also at
Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He plays currently for the Bahamas national team.
#6. Center
Gjio Bain (211-85, college:
S.Mississippi, currently plays in Japan) was the main contributor in
Kagoshima's victory against one of league's weakest teams Gifu Swoops (2-4)
79-77 in the Japanese B League D3 in Sunday night's game.
Bain was the best player in that game. He scored 22 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 38 minutes.
Kagoshima Rebnise (1-3) is located at the very bottom in the B League D3.
Bain's stats this year are: 14.0ppg, 10.9rpg and 1.2bpg in 12 games.
He is a former international player as he played for the Bahamas senior team eight years ago.
#7. International center
Shaquille Cleare (203-93, college:
Texas, currently plays in Spain) was the major contributor in an
Lleida Basquet's victory against the league outsider Araberri (7-23)
68-52 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) last Friday.
Cleare scored 14 points and grabbed 9 rebounds; not bad, considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. Actel Forca Lleida (15-15) is placed 11th in the LEB Gold.
There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important.
Cleare's stats this season are: 12.2ppg and 6.4rpg.
He is also Bahamas national team player.
#8. Center
Zane Knowles (208-92, agency:
Octagon Europe, college:
Texas A&M-CC, currently plays in France) couldn't help
C'Chartres (12-8) in their game against Caen (7-18) in the French ProB (second division), despite his very good performance on Friday night.
Knowles recorded 13 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 26 minutes.
But C'Chartres was edged
84-83 on the opponent's court by the one of league's weakest teams (#17) Caen.
Knowles averaged so far 11.3ppg and 6.5rpg in 11 games.
He plays currently for the Bahamas national team.
#9. International swingman
J.R. Cadot (196-87, college:
TCU, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Aceitunas Fragata Moron to win against the fifth-ranked Cocinas.com (15-14)
58-49 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) in Saturday night's game.
Cadot scored only 3 points.
Aceitunas Fragata Moron (15-15) is placed seventh in East group.
It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row.
Cadot's total stats this season are: 3.3ppg and 3.6rpg.
He is also in the roster of the Bahamas national team.
#10. Forward
Tavario Miller (203-94, college:
Texas A&M, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help
Baskonia (19-6) in their game against L'Hospitalet (13-16) in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division), despite his very good performance last Saturday.
He was the second best scorer with 15 points. Miller also added 5 rebounds in 33 minutes.
But Baskonia (#3) was badly defeated
89-70 on the opponent's court by the lower-ranked (#9) L'Hospitalet in the West group.
Miller averaged so far 11.7ppg, 8.4rpg, 1.1apg and 1.2spg in 28 games.
Miller attended previously one of camps at
Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Bahamas National Team roster.
One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Bahamas passport: #1. Klay Thompson (201-G-90, college:
WSU, currently plays in NBA) was the major contributor in a
Golden State Warriors' victory against the Charlotte Hornets (38-42) crushing them
137-90 in the NBA last Sunday.
He scored 24 points.
The Golden State Warriors have a solid 56-24 record this season.
It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row.
There are only two games left until the end of the NBA Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
It's Thompson's eighth year with the team.
Thompson has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 21.6ppg, 3.9rpg, 2.4apg and 1.1spg.
Thompson has a dual citizenship: Bahamas and American.
