Here is the weekly review of the top performing Bahamas players, who play currently abroad.
#1. This week's number one is an international forward
Tavario Miller (203-94, college:
Texas A&M, currently plays in Argentina). Miller led
Quimsa to an easy victory against the second-ranked Atenas (3-2)
88-71 in the Argentinian La Liga in Sunday night's game.
He had a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 13 rebounds. Miller also added and 3 steals in 27 minutes on the court.
It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Grupo B. Quimsa Santiago del Estero (7-1) is placed first.
It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row.
There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
It's Miller's first season with the team.
This year he averages: 9.3ppg, 10.7rpg, 2.0spg, 2FGP: 42.1% and FT: 75.0% in three games he played so far.
Worth to mention he played also at
Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Miller played for the Bahamas senior national team one years ago.
#2. Second place goes to an international forward
Mark St.Fort (200-88, college:
Warner, currently plays in Japan). He could not help
Saitama Broncos (1-3) in their last game on Saturday. Despite St.Fort's very good performance Saitama Broncos were defeated
72-68 on the road by the higher-ranked Iwate Big Bulls (#7).
He recorded a double-double by scoring 29 points and getting 10 rebounds. St.Fort also added 2 blocks and 3 steals.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
St.Fort has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 22.5ppg, 10.8rpg, 3.0apg, 2.0bpg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 65.8%(25-38), 3FGP: 41.2% and FT: 65.5%.
Former Commonwealth Bank Giants starter played for the Bahamas national team in 2018.
#3. The Bahamas player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center
Zane Knowles (208-92, agency:
Octagon Europe, college:
Texas A&M-CC, currently plays in Greece). Knowles was the major contributor in
PAOK's victory against the 12th-ranked Larissa BC (0-2) crushing them
87-61 in the Greek A1 on Saturday night.
He had a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 10 rebounds. Knowles also added 3 assists in 24 minutes.
PAOK Thessaloniki (1-1) is placed eighth in the A1.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
This year Knowles' overall stats are: 9.5ppg, 9.0rpg, 1.5apg in two games.
He played for the Bahamas national team one years ago.
#4. Center
Shaquille Cleare (203-93, college:
Texas, currently plays in Spain) led
Lleida Basquet to a 2-point victory over the 13th-ranked Almansa (0-2)
82-80 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) in Friday night's game.
Cleare was MVP of the game. He scored 21 points and blocked 2 shots; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Cleare's second season in pro basketball. Actel Forca Lleida (2-0) is placed third in the LEB Gold.
But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen.
This season Cleare has very high stats. He averages: 17.5ppg, 3.5rpg and 1.5apg.
Cleare is also Bahamas national team player.
#5. International forward
Dwight Coleby (206-94, agency:
Interperformances, college:
WKU, currently plays in Turkey) was not able to help one of league's weakest teams
ITU BB (0-2) in their last game. Despite his good performance ITU BB was crushed
123-80 in Bursa by the higher-ranked (#11) Tofas.
Coleby scored 13 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in a mere 17 minutes. It was his first game for ITU BB this season.
But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go.
Coleby used to play for the Bahamas national team
last year.
#6. Power forward
Kadeem Coleby (206-89, agency:
HMS, college:
Wichita St., currently plays in Japan) contributed to an easy victory against the third-ranked Osaka Evessa (1-1) crushing them
81-58 in the Japanese B1 League on Saturday night.
Coleby recorded 8 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. It was his first game for Akita Happinets this season.
His team are placed fourth in East group.
He attended previously one of camps at
Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball. Coleby is international player as he played for the Bahamas senior team one years ago.
#7. International guard
Michael Carey (196-93, college:
Wagner, currently plays in Spain) is a teammate of previously mentioned Shaquille Cleare and both played together in the last Spanish LEB Gold game.
Carey managed to help Actel Forca Lleida in a 2-point victory against the 13th-ranked Almansa (0-2)
82-80.
He scored only 3 points in 11 minutes.
This year Carey's total stats are: 4.0ppg, 2.0rpg and 2.5apg in two games.
He is also Bahamas national team player.
