NPBA Round 4: Rockets keep a leadership position- November 12, 2019

Wolverines - Giants 71-108 Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Nassau: Giants (#1) and Wolverines (#2). Wolverines were smashed at home by 37 points 71-108 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Giants dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Wolverines' 40. Giants forced 20 Wolverines turnovers and outrebounded them 58-38 including a 22-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Giants brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Wolverines were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Adam Johnson who helped to win the game recording 23 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. Renardo Baillou contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Five Giants players scored in double figures. Charaz Lafleur replied with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Rashad Morley (198, college: Brock) added 15 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) in the effort for Wolverines. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first position with 2-0 record, which they share with Rockets. Newly promoted Wolverines dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Shockers. Giants' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Nassau High Flyers. Defenders were defeated at home 74-79 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Regulators forced 25 Defenders turnovers. Strangely Defenders outrebounded Regulators 59-39 including 23 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Kenneth Pratt who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 6 rebounds and Hakeem Walkes who added 13 points during the contest. Four Regulators players scored in double figures. Regulators' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side Gregory Seymour responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 24 rebounds and 4 assists and Carrington Dean scored 15 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Regulators (2-1) moved-up to second place. Loser Defenders still closes the standings with two games lost. They share the position with Uptown Cuts. Regulators' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Nassau Rockets. Rockets defeated 6th ranked Shockers in Nassau 79-61. They outrebounded Shockers 50-37 including a 40-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Rockets looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Rockets made 10 blocks. Able Joseph fired a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Randy Williams chipped in 20 points. Rockets' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. William Rigby produced 20 points and 9 rebounds and guard Spurgeon Johnson added 14 points respectively for lost side. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Giants. Shockers at the other side dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Wolverines. Shockers will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Rockets will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Regulators. It will be extra interesting game as Regulators is their local rival from Nassau. (#3) and Defenders (#6). Bahamas Univ. (1-0) smashed visiting Defenders (0-2) by 27 points 93-66. Bahamas Univ. dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Defenders' 42. Bahamas Univ. forced 28 Defenders turnovers. Strangely Defenders outrebounded Bahamas Univ. 65-46 including a 31-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Defenders' players. Bahamas Univ. brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. 25 personal fouls committed by Defenders helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by Kemsy Sylvestre who had that evening a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks and Romero Cornish (193, college: E.Wyoming JC) supported him with 20 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Four Bahamas Univ. players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 12 points and 19 rebounds by Gregory Seymour did not help to save the game for Defenders. Rufus Dean added 12 points and 13 rebounds for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Bahamas Univ. left bottom position moving up to second place, which they share with High Flyers and Abaco Strong. Defenders at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost.
