NPBA Round 5: Giants take over a leadership position- November 17, 2019
The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with derby games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
Abaco Strong - Wolverines 117-92 Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Nassau: Abaco Strong (#2) and Wolverines (#4). Abaco Strong (2-0) crushed visiting Wolverines (1-3) by 25 points 117-92. Abaco Strong made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Abaco Strong had a 45-27 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Abaco Strong made 10 blocks. Malik Penn nailed 32 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and American Lorenzo Davis (208-83, college: Mountain St.) accounted for 34 points (!!!). Davis is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Abaco Strong players scored in double figures. Tomeko Moxey came up with 28 points and American Dominique Fernander (, college: Hobart) added 20 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Wolverines in the defeat. Wolverines' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Newly promoted Abaco Strong maintains second place with 2-0 record behind leader Giants. Wolverines at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Abaco Strong's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Nassau to the arena Shockers. Regulators were defeated at home 79-91 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Rockets players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. 28 personal fouls committed by Regulators helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Randy Williams who scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Able Joseph chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Rockets players scored in double figures. Kenneth Pratt produced 22 points and 6 rebounds and Alexander Rolle (-93) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rockets have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 3-0 record, which they share with Giants. Regulators at the other side keep the second position with two games lost. Sixth ranked Uptown Cuts (1-2) saved a 3-point derby victory at home edging bottom-ranked Rebels (0-2) 83-80 on Friday evening. Uptown Cuts made 20-of-26 charity shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Rebels were plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. Colton Albury stepped up and scored 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and guard Clayton Miller (183) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. Four Uptown Cuts players scored in double figures. Forward Theo Ferguson responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 16 rebounds and Jason Cambridge produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Rebels' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Uptown Cuts left bottom position moving up to fourth place, which they share with Shockers and Defenders. Rebels at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with two games lost. They share the position with BIBT Great W.. (#5). BIBT Great W. was defeated at home 85-93 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Defenders dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to BIBT Great W.'s 48. They outrebounded BIBT Great W. 66-44 including a 37-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Defenders looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by BIBT Great W.'s players. BIBT Great W. was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Gregory Seymour orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 15 rebounds. Rufus Dean contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Four Defenders players scored in double figures. Nathan Sullivan answered with 36 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and Trevez Hamilton added 21 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) in the effort for BIBT Great W.BIBT Great W.'s coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Giants smashed 3rd placed High Flyers in Nassau 97-69. They outrebounded High Flyers 55-44 including a 37-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Giants looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Giants made 7 blocks. Adam Johnson orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. The former international guard DShon Taylor (196-93, college: Norfolk St.) contributed with 12 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Giants players scored in double figures. Jeremy Neely answered with 12 points and 4 assists and Dave Davis added 7 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for High Flyers. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Giants have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Rockets. Newly promoted High Flyers keep the third place with one game lost. High Flyers will play next round against strong Uptown Cuts trying to get back on the winning streak. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from Nassau - Uptown Cuts. Giants will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
