Lakers and Pinelands made steps closer to the BABA Finals. They celebrated victories in the respective semifinal series.
Lakers upset Sonics 77:73 in the opener. Jamal Singh came up with 23 points to pace the winners. Lakers used a 28:13 run in the second term to take a 41:27 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 19-point mark at the final intermission and never looked back en route to the win. Chiamaka Browne and Keefe Birkett (183-G-88) tossed in 13 points each for the winners. Akeem Marsh (206-F/C-87) responded with 28 points for Sonics.
Pinelands rolled past Cavaliers 96:90 in Game 1. Cavaliers unleashed 37 points in the second frame to build a 54:44 halftime advantage. But Pinelands picked up the tempo in the second half. They unloaded 52 points after the big break and marched to the win. Derion Hurley accounted for 30 points, while Jeremy Gill (183-G-81) contributed 20 points and 9 boards in the victory. Joel Hunte answered with 17 points and 8 caroms in the loss.

Let's go, boys! Way to shoot, way t...   [read more]

Lakers win sixth league title - 5 months ago
Apparently Warriors only delayed the inevitable. The title is staying in Husbands. Lumber Company Lakers are still the kings, as co-MVPs John Jones and Chiamaka Browne (193-G) both had double-doubles as part of the champs' 68-51 Game 5 victory in Monday's Co-operators General Insurance Premier League finals at the Barbados Community College. It's become an embarrassment of riches now for local basketball's gold standard following a decade of dominance that has seen Lakers win six league c...   [read more]

Lakers one game away - 5 months ago
The champs now need one in their quest for six. Lumber Company Lakers are just a game away from another Co-operators General Insurance Premier League title, having survived one furious fourth-quarter rally before pulling out Tuesday's 78-74 Game 3 victory over Hilton Barbados Warriors at the Wildey Gym. It was an all-important victory for the reigning five-time kings, who've moved within a shot of a sixth league crown after the best-of-five series was precariously perched at a game apiece.    [read more]
