Stewart
The old boys club is back in business. City United are heading back to Premier League basketball, as Adrian Stewart (188-G/F-71) scored 26 of his 33 points in the second half of Monday's series-clinching 92-71 Game 3 victory over Spartans in the First Division finals at the Wildey Gym. It was the fitting fairytale ending to a storybook season for the former top flight club, who had its Premier League dreams dashed just last year on this same finals stage. And the script threatened to be the same this year too, as City fell in a 1-0 series deficit before cutting it close in Game 2 for a series-tying win. But they left nothing to chance this time, jumping out to an early 29-16 lead before Stewart took over in the second half. 'It feels wonderful. I feel good for the men that left their teams to come and help me see my goal for the city and it was a wonderful feeling to get back to the finals two years in a row and come out on top this time,' said former national centre and player-coach Sydney 'Bouncer' Rowe.

Patrick making himself at home at UCR - 25 days ago
The first thing you notice walking into David Patrick 's gym is the sound. Not the squeaking of rubber soles on hardwood or the metronomic thudding of bouncing balls, but voices. Lots of them. 'The loudest gyms are usually the best teams,' Patrick says, which is why a Tuesday afternoon session in late July is a symphony of chatter, nearly all of it rooted in enthusiasm and encouragement - some from the coaches, but much more from the players themselves. Let's go, boys! Way to shoot, way t...   [read more]

Lakers win sixth league title - 5 months ago
Apparently Warriors only delayed the inevitable. The title is staying in Husbands. Lumber Company Lakers are still the kings, as co-MVPs John Jones and Chiamaka Browne (193-G) both had double-doubles as part of the champs' 68-51 Game 5 victory in Monday's Co-operators General Insurance Premier League finals at the Barbados Community College. It's become an embarrassment of riches now for local basketball's gold standard following a decade of dominance that has seen Lakers win six league c...   [read more]

Lakers one game away - 5 months ago
The champs now need one in their quest for six. Lumber Company Lakers are just a game away from another Co-operators General Insurance Premier League title, having survived one furious fourth-quarter rally before pulling out Tuesday's 78-74 Game 3 victory over Hilton Barbados Warriors at the Wildey Gym. It was an all-important victory for the reigning five-time kings, who've moved within a shot of a sixth league crown after the best-of-five series was precariously perched at a game apiece.    [read more]
