Regular Season Round 7: Morovis - Lares 87-70

There was no surprise in Morovis where 6th ranked Lares (2-6) were defeated by fourth ranked Montaneras (3-4) 87-70 on Friday. Montaneras outrebounded Lares 44-31 including 33 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Lares' players. It was a great evening for American guard Mikayla Pivec (178-1997, college: Oregon St.) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Her fellow American import forward Jasmine Walker (190-1998, college: Alabama) helped adding 21 points and 11 rebounds. Four Montaneras players scored in double figures. At the losing side Calveion Landrum responded with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American forward Danielle McCray (185-1993, college: Ole Miss) scored 21 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Montaneras maintains fourth place with 3-4 record, which they share with Carolina. Lares lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the sixth position with six games lost. Montaneras will meet at home higher ranked Cangrejeras (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lares will play against the league's leader Atenienses in Manati and hope to secure a win.
