There was a minor upset when 6th ranked Cojute (10-10) lost to eighth ranked Santiagueno (6-14) in Usultan 86-94 on Thursday. Santiagueno forced 19 Cojute turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) notched a double-double by scoring 24 points, 35 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the effort and Santiago Esperanza (185-1993) supported him with 29 points. Four Santiagueno players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 40 points (!!!), 18 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 steals by American swingman Andravious Smith (196-1995, college: Tougaloo) did not help to save the game for Cojute. Lee Vasquez (176-1991) added 14 points and 5 assists for the guests. Santiagueno moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Nejapa. Cojute lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with ten games lost.
