Second Stage Round 3: Libertad A. - San Jose 78-99

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Asuncion: San Jose (#1) and Libertad A. (#3). Libertad A. was crushed at home by 21 points 78-99 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. San Jose dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Libertad A.'s 30. They outrebounded Libertad A. 38-24 including a 31-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. San Jose looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Libertad A.'s players. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Carlos Luis Vallejos (183-1992) who scored 16 points and 8 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). The former international forward Ramon Sanchez (194-1991) chipped in 15 points and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was international point guard Jorge Martinez (178-1998) who recorded 29 points and 5 rebounds and forward Guillermo Osorio (192-1985) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Five San Jose and four Libertad A. players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. San Jose's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Asuncion to the arena Olimpia K..
