Regular Season Round 6: UDC - Gimnastico 86-79

Not a big story in a game when 3rd ranked Gimnastico (4-3) was defeated on the road by first ranked UDC (7-1) 86-79 on Sunday. UDC forced 20 Gimnastico turnovers. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Javiera Novion (170-1987, college: Eckerd) who had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Forward Javiera Carrasco (-2002) chipped in 13 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. UDC's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Vania Vega (173-2003) who recorded 22 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and forward Valentina Garay (176-2001) added 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Four Gimnastico players scored in double figures. UDC maintains first position with 7-1 record, which they share with Univ.Concepcion. Loser Gimnastico keeps the third place with three games lost. UDC will meet at home league's second-placed Sportiva Ita. in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gimnastico will play against New Crusaders and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
