Regular Season Round 9: Penarol - Boca 86-81
Date: November 23, 2022
Everything could happen in Mar del Plata at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Penarol and 14th ranked Boca had identical 4-4 record. This time Penarol used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Buenos Aires 86-81 on Wednesday night. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Penarol made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. American forward Al Thornton (203-1983, college: FSU, agency: BIG) stepped up and scored 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Bruno Sansimoni (194-1996) chipped in 16 points and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was the former international Leonardo Mainoldi (205-1985) with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and American-Jordanian Dar Tucker (193-1988, college: DePaul) scored 19 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Penarol (5-4) moved-up to eighth place. Boca at the other side dropped to the tenth position with five games lost. They share it with Regatas. Penarol will meet at home Ferro (#13) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Boca will play against San Lorenzo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
