Regular Season Round 19: Del Progreso - Pilar 95-90

Not a big story in a game when 13th ranked Pilar (5-9) lost to ninth ranked Del Progreso (7-7) in General Roca 90-95 on Friday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Del Progreso made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Strangely Pilar outrebounded Del Progreso 45-28 including a 14-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was an exceptional evening for guard Julian Ruiz (185-1998) who led the winners and scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Point guard Leonardo Solis (172-2000) accounted for 15 points and 6 assists for the winning side. Naturalized Paraguayan forward Gabriel Peralta (201-1995) came up with 15 points and 9 rebounds and Greek-American forward Tommy Demogerontas (203-1997, college: IUP) added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Pilar in the defeat. Four Del Progreso and five Pilar players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Del Progreso moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Dep Norte. Pilar lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the fourteenth position with nine games lost. They share it with Pico FC. Del Progreso will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Pilar will play against Pico FC (#14) in General Pico and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
