Regular Season Round 16: Gimnasia - Regatas 75-70

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Regatas (6-3) lost to second ranked Gimnasia CR (10-5) in Comodoro Rivadavia 70-75 on Friday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Gimnasia CR outrebounded Regatas 36-19 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by Dominican swingman Angel Reyes (201-2002) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds and Cuban swingman Marcos Chacon (194-2003, agency: Pro Sports) supported him with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Even 33 points (!!!) (made all of his eight free throws) by point guard Tobias Franchela (185-2001) did not help to save the game for Regatas. Dominican Rey Abad (210-2002) added 14 points for lost side. Gimnasia CR have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 10-5 record having just one point less than leader Instituto. Loser Regatas keeps the eighth place with three games lost. Gimnasia CR will meet at home Boca Jrs (#5) in the next round. Regatas will play against San Lorenzo in Almagra and hope to secure a win.
