Rather predictable result in Olivia where fifth ranked Independ.O. (8-2) defeated 7th ranked Atenas (7-7) 79-65 on Saturday. Independ.O. made 17-of-17 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. The best player for the winners was point guard Benjamin Giorgetti (178-2004) who had a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Matias Bernan (196-2001) chipped in 21 points. Guard Ignacio Garcia (190-2005) produced 21 points and 6 rebounds and Ecuadorian guard Erick Mecias (184-2003) added 16 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Independ.O.. They maintain fifth place with 8-2 record. Loser Atenas keeps the seventh position with seven games lost. Independ.O. will meet at home higher ranked Obera (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Atenas will play against Argentino (#11) and hope to secure a win.
