There was no surprise in Santa Fe where 18th ranked Union SF (3-11) was defeated by seventh ranked Penarol (8-5) 90-81 on Tuesday. The best player for the winners was the former international Tomas Monacchi (198-1997) who scored 20 points and 7 rebounds. American forward Al Thornton (203-1983, college: FSU, agency: BIG) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Four Penarol players scored in double figures. Center Ignacio Alessio (203-1987) produced 21 points and American forward Miles Bowman Jr (198-1993, college: High Point) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Penarol have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position with 8-5 record. Union SF lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighteenth place with 11 games lost. Penarol will meet at home Comunicaciones (#19) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Union SF will play against the league's second-placed Obras and will have a slim chance for a victory.
