There was no surprise in Santa Cruz do Sul where 15th ranked U.Corinthians (3-13) was defeated by fifth ranked Pinheiros (11-5) 79-70 on Friday. The former international forward Rafael Munford (195-1998, college: Augusta) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and point guard Felipe Ruivo (188) chipped in 13 points and 4 assists. Four Pinheiros players scored in double figures. Point guard Augusto Leao (184-1998) responded with 16 points and the former international Guilherme Teichmann (204-1983, college: Tulsa) scored 4 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Pinheiros. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Minas and Corinthians. U.Corinthians lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the bottom position with 13 games lost. They share it with Rio Claro and Cerrado. Pinheiros will meet Minas (#4) in the next round. U.Corinthians will have a break next round.
