There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Fortaleza (5-12) edged on the road higher ranked Brasilia (6-11) 82-80 on Monday. The guests trailed by 9 points at the halftime before their 48-37 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Fortaleza made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. American swingman Dexter McClanahan (193-1997, college: Nicholls St.) stepped up and scored 20 points and 6 assists for the winners and the former international point guard David Rossetto (184-1992) chipped in 21 points. Guard Gemadinha Sacco (183-1997) responded with 29 points (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and point guard Guilherme Lessa (178-1995) scored 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Fortaleza. They moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Pato Basquete. Loser Brasilia dropped to the eleventh position with 11 games lost. Fortaleza will meet Cerrado (#15) in the next round. Brasilia will play against UNIFACISA (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
