Regular Season Round 7: Opico - Costa Rica 18-85

Bottom-ranked Opico is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fifth consecutive match to second ranked Costa Rica (5-1) 85-18. Costa Rica held Opico to an opponent 17.8 percent shooting from the field compared to 41.4 percent accuracy of the winners. Costa Rica players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Opico's players. It was a great evening for point guard Jahely Portan (167-2001) who led her team to a victory scoring 38 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. Alicia Abarca (165-1997) helped adding 11 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Costa Rica players scored in double figures. At the losing side Marcia Bonito responded with 8 points and 14 rebounds and forward Alondra Guardado (169-2001) scored 2 points and 12 rebounds. Costa Rica maintains second place with 5-1 record having just one point less than leader Santa Tecla Elite. Opico at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. Costa Rica will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Opico will play against Santa Tecla F1 (#8) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
