We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Florida where 7th ranked Platense (12-8) was defeated by eighth ranked Penarol (12-7) 89-83 on Saturday. American forward Al Thornton (203-1983, college: FSU, agency: BIG) scored 24 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Pablo Alderete (203-1993) chipped in 23 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) during the contest. At the losing side Uruguayan-Italian swingman Nicola Pomoli (195-1999) responded with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and American power forward DeMarco Owens (203-1996, college: Montevallo) scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. Four Platense players scored in double figures. Penarol have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place. Loser Platense dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. Penarol will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Platense will play against Regatas (#11) and hope to secure a win.
