Regular Season Round 8: Ancud - Puerto Varas 101-78
Date: February 5, 2023
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Puerto Varas (5-3) against fifth ranked Ancud (5-1) on Sunday night. Visiting Puerto Varas were crushed by Ancud in Ancud 101-78. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Puerto Varas. Ancud players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Puerto Varas' players. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Stephen Maxwell (201-1993, college: CSUN) who helped to win the game recording 26 points (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) and the former international Sebastian Suarez (193-1991, college: Portland St.) who added 16 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) during the contest. The former international Antonio Pinedo (195) responded with 24 points and Argentinian Tomas Rossi (202) scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Four Ancud and five Puerto Varas players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ancud moved-up to second place. Puerto Varas at the other side dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Ancud will play against bottom-ranked Temuco (#15) at home in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Puerto Varas will play against Puente Alto (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
