Regular Season Round 24: Olimpia - Penarol 80-92
Date: February 14, 2023
No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Penarol (13-9) beat bottom-ranked Olimpia (6-17) in Montevideo 92-80 on Tuesday. It was a great shooting night for Penarol especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The winners were led by American power forward Lee Roberts (203-1987, college: Findlay, OH) who scored that evening 24 points and the other American import guard Rodney Green (197-1988, college: La Salle) supported him with 18 points. Five Penarol players scored in double figures. Penarol's coach Pablo Lopez used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 22 points and 5 rebounds by American-Puerto Rican swingman Jahvari Josiah (193-1993, college: Coppin St.) did not help to save the game for Olimpia. American point guard Marcus Thomas (191-1995, college: Rosemont) added 19 points and 6 assists. Penarol have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. Loser Olimpia stay at the bottom position with 17 games lost. Penarol's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena Urunday.
