Regular Season Round 24: U.Corinthians - Flamengo 78-77

The most exciting game of round 24 in the NBB took place in Santa Cruz do Sul. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of second-best Flamengo (21-3) to twelfth ranked U.Corinthians (7-15) 78-77 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Flamengo. It was a good game for point guard Augusto Leao (184-1998) who saved his team from a defeat with 26 points and 6 rebounds. American MikeL Simms (196-1997, college: VCU) contributed with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Four U.Corinthians players scored in double figures. Argentinian Martin Cuello (193-1993) replied with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international Gabriel Galvanini (202-1998) added 16 points and 10 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) in the effort for Flamengo. Flamengo's coach Gustavo Conti rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. U.Corinthians maintains twelfth position with 7-15 record. Flamengo at the other side keeps the second place with three games lost. U.Corinthians will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Flamengo will play at home against Minas where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
