Regular Season Round 1: Teporacas - Mexcaltecas 76-60

There was a minor upset when Mexcaltecas were defeated on the road by Teporacas 76-60 on Friday. Teporacas dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Mexcaltecas' 28. Teporacas forced 19 Mexcaltecas turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Mexcaltecas' players. The former international forward Jacqueline Luna-Castro (188-1993, college: Charleston) fired 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Naturalized American point guard Hazel Ramirez (165-1992, college: LMU) chipped in 15 points and 7 assists. Teporacas' coach used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. The former international point guard Paola Beltran (164-1994) produced 21 points and 7 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws) and Monica Cuevas added 7 points and 12 rebounds respectively for lost side. Teporacas will meet Lenadoras in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mexcaltecas will play against Mieleras in Guanajuato and hope to win that game.
