No shocking result in a game when third ranked Gimnasia (20-8) beat 18th ranked Union SF (6-22) in Santa Fe 87-81 on Wednesday. Gimnasia looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by Jamaican-American forward Wayne Martin (201-1993, college: Tennessee St.) who scored that evening 13 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Facundo Vazquez (185-1998) supported him with 12 points and 4 assists. Five Gimnasia players scored in double figures. Even 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists by Mateo Bolivar (187-1992) did not help to save the game for Union SF. Center Ignacio Alessio (203-1987) added 15 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gimnasia have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Union SF lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the nineteenth position with 22 games lost. Gimnasia will meet Obera (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Union SF will play against San Martin (#12) and hope to secure a win.
