Regular Season Round 25: Corinthians - Fortaleza 84-85

There was an upset in Sao Paulo where higher ranked Corinthians (14-11) was edged by fifteenth ranked Fortaleza (7-19) 85-84 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 85-84. Strangely Corinthians outrebounded Fortaleza 47-35 including 33 on the defensive glass. American swingman Dexter McClanahan (193-1997, college: Nicholls St.) fired 35 points (!!!) for the winners. Point guard Matheusinho Brito (184-2000) chipped in 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Davaunta Thomas (196-1995, college: UAFS) produced 22 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists and center Maique Tavares (210-1993) added 21 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Corinthians' coach Leo Alves rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Fortaleza moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Pato Basquete. Loser Corinthians keeps the sixth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Pinheiros. Fortaleza will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Corinthians will play against Paschoalotto/Bauru (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
