We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Mar del Plata where 8th ranked Penarol (17-10) was defeated by ninth ranked Independ.O. (16-13) 97-93 on Friday. Independ.O. made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Point guard Martin Cabrera (179-1996) scored 23 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and Venezuelan guard Yohanner Sifontes (192-1995) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Independ.O.'s coach Martin Gonzalez used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Jose Defelippo (186-1997) responded with 26 points and 6 rebounds and Jamaican center Jerome Jordan (215-1986, college: Tulsa, agency: Octagon Europe) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds. Four Independ.O. and five Penarol players scored in double figures. Independ.O. have an impressive five-game winning streak. Newly promoted Independ.O. maintains ninth position with 16-13 record, which they share with Regatas. Loser Penarol dropped to the seventh place with ten games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
