Regular Season Round 2: Quezaltepeque - Chalchuapa 100-45
Date: March 16, 2023
Quezaltepeque used a home court advantage and smashed the opponent from Chalchuapa 100-45. Quezaltepeque held Chalchuapa to an opponent 24.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 51.8 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Chalchuapa 54-38 including a 46-33 advantage in defensive rebounds. Quezaltepeque players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. Dominican forward Cristian Duran (201-1996, college: Tenn Tech) notched a double-double by scoring 26 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and Dominican forward Rayner Moquete (185-1990, college: Binghamton) supported him with 15 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals. Five Quezaltepeque players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 19 points and 18 rebounds by American Gorg Alhag (190-1997, college: Mayville St.) did not help to save the game for Chalchuapa. His fellow American import point guard Robert Story (183, college: WSSU) added 18 points and 4 assists for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Quezaltepeque will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Chalchuapa will play on the road against Cojute in Cojutepeque and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
