Bottom-ranked Santa Ana 2 (0-8) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 58-45 loss to second ranked San Salvador (6-2) in on Saturday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. San Salvador forced 19 Santa Ana 2 turnovers. Dominican center Yamile Rodriguez (188-1994, college: ETSU) stepped up and scored 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and guard Kenia Mena (156-2001) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. San Salvador's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was center Carina Cornejo (200-1975) with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks and guard Melany Sanchez (167-2004) scored 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. San Salvador maintains second place with 6-2 record having just two points less than leader Santa Tecla 2. Santa Ana 2 lost their eighth game in a row. They still close the standings with eight games lost. San Salvador will meet LMMR 2 (#4) in the next round. Santa Ana 2 will play against Salvadorenas 2 and hopes to get finally their first victory.
