There was an upset in Mercedes where higher ranked Penarol (17-14) was rolled over by seventeenth ranked Comunicaciones (8-21) 99-78 on Sunday. Comunicaciones looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Germain Jordan (198-1986, college: Dillard) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and point guard Fabian Sahdi (186-1989) chipped in 16 points. Four Comunicaciones players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international Tomas Monacchi (198-1997) responded with 13 points and 7 rebounds and Jose Defelippo (186-1997) scored 11 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Comunicaciones maintains seventeenth place with 8-21 record. Penarol lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Regatas. Comunicaciones will meet at home higher ranked Olimpico (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Penarol will have a break next round.
