There was no surprise in Santiago where 12th ranked Catolica (4-10) was defeated by top-ranked Concepcion (11-0) 90-75 on Sunday. Concepcion made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. Concepcion outrebounded Catolica 46-29 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Americans were the main players on the court. Forward Jerry Evans (203-1990, college: Nevada) fired 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Forward Miles Bowman Jr (198-1993, college: High Point) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Five Concepcion players scored in double figures. Point guard Manny Payton (183-1997, college: FSU) produced 33 points (!!!) and power forward Andre Pierce (207-1995, college: Lee JC, agency: BIG) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Concepcion have an impressive 11-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Loser Catolica keeps the twelfth position with ten games lost. Concepcion will meet Espanol O. (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Catolica will play against Puente Alto (#6) and hope to secure a win.
